Dongsaeng Pops In

Hi addicKts!  Long time no see!  I've missed you!  I don't really have a specific purpose for writing today, other than I wanted to check in and say hi.

I suppose, if we must, we could discuss the gorgeousness that is Choi Jin Hyuk.

But who would want to do that?  Or talk about how awesome Emergency Couple is???  I guess it wouldn't hurt to tell you how much I am loving it.  Because I am.  Loving it.  And him.  And Chief Gook Cheon Soo (Lee Pil Mo).  And the rest of the cast.  I'll be honest, the first episode especially was very difficult for me to make it through.  Watching the two of them fall apart, even though we had just met this couple, was heartbreaking and tough.  Then it was a little boring.  Finally, however, it picked up and the fun truly began.  This one deserves an episode-by-episode break down, but sadly, I can't get into that kind of detail today.  Why do I love this drama?  The chemistry between our leads is sizzling.  Even with the awkward 2nd male lead.  His awkwardness is delightfully endearing and his emotions are still able to come shining through without problem.  My only complaint, outside of the obvious medical-related silliness that occasionally pops up now and again, is that I am all caught up on it and now have to wait on those last two episodes.  Grr.  Another long week awaits me.

What else is up in drama land?  For starters, way to much.  There are so many shows I want to watch right now and I just can't find the time to fit them all in.  Trying to then choose becomes like a Sophie's Choice kind of thing.  I've started several in hopes that some will stick.  Sly and Single Again is probably my #2 at the moment behind Emergency Couple.  It too is kind of hard to watch for me as we watch a relationship crumble before our eyes and there's nothing we can do to stop it.  What is up with all these divorce-related dramas?  Talk about depressing.  Maybe that's just me though.  Joo Sang Wook helps take some of the sting out of it.  I'm all about the pretty distractions to keep my focus off the sad stuff I don't like.

Toss into the mix some Prime Minister and I and even a little Bride of the Century (very little, like less than one episode so far), and hopefully something will grab me and I'll be a happy ahjumma with a delightful little pick on my screen.  Otherwise I'll just roam aimlessly through DramaFever and Viki, searching for my someone special.

Okay, stepping away from the dramas for a second.  How awesome is KMuse?  How cool are all these posts?  It kind of makes me feel a bit shy coming back because I have not much more to add or say than what has already been said.  Love that though.  Love that our labor of love is in such capable hands, even while we are away.  Ooh!  That reminds me!  I have something exciting to tell you!  She may be upset with me for saying anything, but it's such a big deal that I can't help it.  Unnie, dear sweet, crazier than crazy busy Unnie, has finally, after something like 6 months, started back to watching dramas.  Whoa.  I don't know what's more surprising - the fact that she survived those 6 months drama-free or the fact that she's actually back and watching again?  She's finishing off Master's Sun (if she hasn't yet) and has also started Inspiring Generation with her Hyun-y, Kim Hyun Joong.  Hooray!  Welcome back to the cult club, Unnie!  You have been missed!  Can't wait to talk dramas with you once more!

Since I have no more pictures, I'm going to end this post here.  Sorry it wasn't anything exciting or newsworthy.  Sorry it wasn't cavity-inducing, eye-candy laden.  I just missed you all and wanted to let you know that I was still alive and what I was up to.  In the timeless words of Sir Arnold, "I'll be back".

And I promise to never quote Terminator or Ahnold again.

Top 5 Kdrama Countdown - February Week 3

Evil Mother In Laws, Iconic movie reenactments,  Ghost..Ghosts.. & yes more Ghosts, and a sexy alien played by Seo In Guk can all be found in this weeks Top 5 Kdrama Countdown.   So sit back and enjoy the ride as I take you through the best moments in kdramaland during the 2nd week in February
I swear that all the drama writers were eating their awesome sauce this week.  It was so so so hard to choose only five favorites.  I felt like I was letting down all of the other dramas who truly moved me by their awesomeness.  With several new dramas added into the mix, along with all of our current airing dramas (many of them coming to the end of their run) the writers are for some reason throwing out all of their best work.  And while I was unable to put everything in this weeks countdown, I did whittle it down to some of the best of the best).

#5 How Many Times Can A Ghost Seeing Detective Get Hit in the Head in One Episode?
Ghost Seeing Detective CheoYong began airing (or at least subs finally came out for the first two episodes) this week and we were introduced to our hero.  A police officer (Oh Ji Ho - Fugitive Plan B) who solves crimes with the use of the ghosts of the murdered victims.  Due to losing his partner, in a posession ritual killing related accident, he gives up serious crime and becomes a traffic cop.  Five years later he is dragged back into the world of murders and ghosts and meets teenage ghost Han Na-Young (Jun Hyo Seong - Idol group Secret) who haunts the police station.  They team up to fight crime and it is all types of quirky.  I don't know why but they just make the cutest couple of crime fighters (not so much as any type of romantic couple, but more of a master and his unruly apprentice).  I have too admit that whoever the director of this drama is, he has a great and deep love with hitting people over the back of their heads with a wooden stick.  The amount of times our Hero gets knocked out got to the point that I even started to contemplate making it into a drinking game (for us non drinkers such as myself it could be a shot of Pepsi to help me stay up and watch everything. LOL)  So if you want to see a quirky show full of spooky moments, cute squabbles, and our hero developing stick induced brain damage, be sure to check out this new show.

#4 The Women I Love to Hate
(I wrote this after episode 13 and at this point of the show I still think my feelings were justified:)
When answering the question put forth from the title of the show "Can We Love?" for these women I want to shout a resounding NO!  Rarely have I ever loathed a female character as much as I do these three women (well really two of the women and annoying girl in training) from this drama.  Yes, you heard right, not just one character but three.  I am currently hoping that all three women somehow end up having to live together alone with no other human contact (because they are that horrible).  The first of the trio (thankfully she is getting better but still added her in since she was a pill up to episode 13) is the daughter of Ji Hyun, fifteen year old Se Ra who not only finds herself pregnant, but portrays what happens when you spoil your child.  Her level of selfish tendencies and cruelty towards her mother is unnatural.  And I know that a lot of you are saying to yourselves that she is having to go through a teenage pregnancy in an unforgiving culture.  However that does not excuse her horrible behavior before this became known nor after when she sees how her mother is treated.  I hope that they attempt to redeem this character for her mother's sake because you can choose your friends but you can't choose your daughter.
The second detestable character is Ji Hyun's abusive/psychotic mother in law Im Ye Jin.  In all my many many dramas I have yet to see a MIL so abusive and cruel as she is to her husband's wife.  And keep in mind that I have seen dramas where they fake affairs, force psychological illnesses to have the daughter in law committed, and a whole bunch of shenanigans in between and none come close to the evil that is this women.  Her crazy abuse is probably the main reason I would give Jo Hyun's character a free pass for all her past lies because no on deserves to be around that women.  The final women is one I have mentioned in past countdowns.  The mega (insert derogatory curse word of choice) that is Sun Mi brings the crazy B lead to a whole new level when she uses her pregnancy (NOT the main guys child) to break up her best friend with her soul mate boyfriend.  And she does it without an ounce of shame or guilt.  It would at least be understandable if she was totally alone and had no options but we have already seen her ditch two perfectly good men, instead deciding to try and take a man that is not hers.  I think I speak for all of us viewers when I say that even becoming an old alone cat ahjumma is too good for her.  I worry that she is going to find happiness in the end (since this is a Asian drama and they like to redeem people) but I wish that she could spend the next twenty years stuck  watching everyone else be happy around her.  All three of these women deserve a good slap from karma and if we are lucky it will by while we can watch.

#3 Karma Comes to the Story of Empress Ki
Talking about karma, Empress Ki rewarded its viewers with the #1 Evil Overlord Family getting a huge heaping bowl full of it.  Nyang's plans come to fruition as the selfish empress is banished to the cold palace (kind of cracked me up that this palace was filled with spiderwebs and icicles yet was supposedly just in a different part of the compound) and began her suffering by having to sleep with no blankets and eat only gruel.  Her brother confronts Nyang who informs him (with the scariest look) that this is not the end of her revenge but just the beginning.  That she won't stop until he is left crying over the broken and dead bodies of his sister and father.  The Emperor is not staying still either and through a series of political moves and help from his supporters he is able to overthrow much of the regents power.  For followers of the show who have hated and screamed at their TV's as these people did horrible things, it was truly a great moment.  I have to admit I probably cheered out loud once or twice.

#2 Bromance ET Style
It was so so so hard to choose a favorite moment from this weeks My Love From Another Star.  There was the great scene where Song-Yi went into super cute baby talk mode when demanding that her alien boyfriend come to her room right now (I think if I ever talked to my husband in that voice there is a good chance he would divorce me.  LOL  Yes it is that annoying).
Cutesy Song Yi Clip
Or the scene where Do Min Joon outs himself as a supernatural being to the world in order to save Song-Yi from dying of poison. You have to really appreciate a boyfriend who shows you and the world how he truly feels.
Our Alien is Outed Clip

But the scene that truly won my heart and is my #2 moment of the week was between Do Min Joon and his future possible brother in law Yoon Jae.  Min Joon manages to get drunk when getting permission from our heroine's father to officially court her.  And we all know what happens when our cute alien gets drunk.  HEHEHE  He flashes himself and Song Yi's brother from a phone booth into his apartment, totally outing himself (before he was officially outed to the world).  Now most people would be a little upset or weirded out by this turn of events, but not Yoon Jae (happens to be obsessed about space, astronomy, and all things alien related).   He instead treats the drunk Min Joon as if he is royalty and the next morning when he sobers up, Min Joon finds that his new friend only has one request.  He slowly puts out his finger and poor Min Joon winces as he reenacts the scene from ET.  This scene officially not only gets on my countdown for this week, but is possibly one of my top favorite moments from the whole series.  So congrats to all you viewers out there that enjoy a little Meta humor in their dramas.

#1 Seo In Guk!!!!
Did I mention that my #1 Bias was back on tv this week!  For those of you who were not following my blog posts, the web series Another Parting began airing this week and episodes 1-3 were AWESOME.  I was not expecting the story to be quirky nor about a Hul, body snatching alien who comes to earth to study the human experience and instead finds love with a suicidal idol Ha Na.  Seo In Guk steals the show with his animated expressions and charisma that pulls you into the crazy storyline.  And at only 10 minutes apiece, the episodes manage to pack in a whole lot of story in a short time getting you to hope that Ha Na and Hul can somehow pull off a happy ending.  I have all the links with subs in my blog recap posts.  For those of you waiting for the conclusion of the show, episodes 4 and 5 will be airing on Monday and Tuesday respectively.

Honorable Mentions
I want to do a quick shout out to a few other highlights of the week.  I know I know, but it just kills me to not reward excellence.  Feel lucky I stopped at only three.

Potato Star - Karaoke Wars
Several of the members of the Potato Star world travel together to enjoy some hot springs.  However due to infighting everyone is silent and angry throughout the whole vacation.  Determined to have some quality family time, youngest son Hye-Sung is devices a plan to bring everyone together.  He cajoles and begs til his family comes out to enjoy some karaoke but instead everyone uses this opportunity to sing out their issues with each other.   My personal favorite was when the garage ahjumma started singing to the mom (her boss) about how her house, kids, and money should have all been hers hehehe.

Beyond the Clouds - Revenge is Pretty
I am excited for this new drama now that I have finished the first two episodes.  They have really put some money into this drama since they shot on location in Thailand.  Can I just say that I love how they went that extra mile to actually go to another country to comply with the storyline.  It gave the whole show an extra exotic feel.  Add to that the fact that leading man Yoon Kye-Sang (Greatest Love- I am so excited he jumped out of the B Role zone) is knocking it out of the park in his portrayal of Jung Se-Ro, an incarcerated patsy for murder and a jewel heist and you could not have made me any happier.

Beyond the Clouds Trailer

Emergency Couple - Sexy CPR
I am pretty sure that no one has ever thought of CPR as being sexy before.  But that was before this scene in Emergency Couple.  Chang Min's emotions are slowly being reengaged for his ex wife Jin Hee.  However it looks like things might be heating up between Jin Hee and her boss Cheon Soo.  Or at least they are in Chang Min's overactive imagination.  I would just like to point out that the music used in this scene is HILARIOUS.  I will never look at CPR the same way.

Steamy CPR Clip

OK, OK, I am stepping back away from the keyboard because I think that I could continue to find scene after scene that I want to talk about this week.  I am giddy just writing about all the shows I love and now I want to go watch everything again.  Unfortunately that will have to wait and instead I will start watching everything for next week.  Who knows, maybe we will find A scene from our first Thailand drama mentioned on my blog now that I am watching the Thai Full House remake (just a quick mention that it is absolutely adorable).  And I am sure that we are in for a crazy finale from My Love From Another Star.  Not to mention we are heading to the final run with our dramas Lets Eat and I Need Romance 3 so maybe they will have some spectacular scenes that we can add to our countdown.  Whatever happens, I am sure I will enjoy every drama filled minute of it.

Till next week,
Kmuse

Top Five Kdrama Countdown - February Week 1 -Lets Eat Edition

I was watching all my shows like usual and really struggling to find something that stood out for my weekly countdown.  I was just about to start picking some sub par moments and then I watched episode 11 of Lets Eat.....AND IT TOTALLY ROCKED!!!  Half way through I was having such a hard time picking just one scene to use that I instead decided to just  do my top 5 favorite moments all from this episode.  YES! It really was that good.  Now I am sure some of you are saying to yourselves....Kmuse, I am not watching Lets Eat.  What about us?  Don't worry, I do have a few scenes that I had squirreled away from other shows.  They will be at the end of the post under the honorable mention header.  If nothing else I hope this helps those of you that are on the fence about watching this drama take the proverbial plunge.  It is such a wonderful guilty pleasure and is perfect for rounding out my week.

I tried to find as many clips as I could.  However some scenes are not on youtube.  So if you are interested in checking out the scenes described below I have added a time stamp for each segment.  This is one of those dramas that has a lot of individual scenes so if you do check it out for the most part they don't really spoil plot points for the show as a whole.
You can find the episode at the below link.

#5 Food, Food, and More Food
It is impossible to not want to eat while watching this drama. I have to imagine that all the actors have gained some serious weight while filming since they eat..... A LOT.  This director does a perfect job of not only making the food look amazing, but having the actors look literally orgasmic as they eat it all.   You have to give credit to the show for making me sit through four minutes of watching people eat and still be entertained.  See what I am talking about in the below clip!
 Food Porn Clip

#4 A Liar is My Ideal Type
Oh Do-Yeon and Yoon Jin-Yi are two of the characters that have shown an interest in our main guy Koo Dae-Young.  Hilarity ensues when they finally meet face to face and instantly decide that they are rivals.  Both start snapping at each other in the food line and it comes out that our leading man told both of them elaborate stories about a lost love (in order to keep them in the friend zone and not chasing after him).  The best part is that when Lee Soo-Kyung comes between them and says that it looks like he had been lying to both of them.  They just huff and say they don't care.  And then Oh Do-Yeon says my favorite line of the episode (and possibly the whole show).  When she finds out she says "that's perfect since a liar is my ideal type".  HAHAHAHA
 Time stamp :14.45

#3 Dog Phobia
Lawyer Kim Hak Moon has had a crush on Soo Kyung since his college days when he was a totally geek and beneath her notice.  Hiring her in some weird revenge fantasy he constantly switched between love and hate all the while keeping her oblivious to his feelings.  He has finally decided that he loves her so in an effort to find common ground he asks about her dog.  Now there are two things that Soo Kyung loves, food being the first and her cute dog being the second.  Gushing about her dog she assumes that Hak Moon also wants a dog and drags him to the pet store.  Unfortunately Hak Moon has a crippling fear of dogs and even touching a fluffy small dog has his hands shaking in terror.  Through a series of misunderstandings and assumptions Soo Kyung decides that her boss really wants to adopt a large shelter dog (which gets him off the hook for now but what about in the future?).  Deciding he needs to overcome his fear in order to get the girl, Hak Moon hilariously has a shouting match with his phone about finding a cure for fear of dogs.  In the end he finds a dog that he can practice on....... a small barking kid toy hehehe.  I cant wait til next week because I am sure this misunderstanding is going to be even funnier in the future.
Time stamp: 47:15
#2 A Slippery Save
This scene is awesome.  I love how our leading lady is not going to fall in love come hell or high water......or freezing temps and ice strewn sidewalks.  Gradually becoming aware that she has started to "like like" our hottie through this episode, Soo Kyung is fighting it tooth and nail.  And when she slips on some ice and Dae Young saves her from falling, she gets extremely huffy tries to stalk off and promptly almost falls again. I love that he starts trying to convince her to get insurance for just these type of situations hehehe.  This time Dae Young pulls her even closer and offers her his back (haha seriously why would you think a piggy back ride would be safer on ice). What could have turned into a romantic piggy back ride is rejected by our girl and tells him that he uses his back so much it might as well be a shuttle bus.  She then takes off her shoes and walks across the icy sidewalks barefoot.  HAHAHA  I love that this is one girl who is not going to fall for the romantic ideals.  She is cranky and anti love and she is not going to change, even if she ends up with frostbitten toes.
Time stamp: 50:51
I Would Rather Walk Barefoot on Ice then Fall For You Clip

#1 That Boy Is Mine Karaoke Style
What happens when you add two battling oppa chasers, a flirty insurance salesman, one love sick lawyer, a goofy aid, and a prim and proper food addict in a karaoke room?  Pure comedic gold of course.  Not to mention a really great scene of Yoon Doo Joon's Karaoke version of "Troublemaker" (can someone tell me when he went from kinda goofy cute to steaming hot because I am still wondering how that happened within just a few episodes).  The best is when both girls try to stake their claim on our hottie (even though he has turned down both - see #4 moment).  They instigate a drinking war to see who should have him in the event that he ever decides to date again.  While this is going on the Lawyer keeps sending the creepiest love looks at our leading lady who is oblivious to all and just wishing she could go home.  Truly a great scene and my #1 Karaoke moment to date.
Time stamp : 25:52
Troublemaker Karaoke Clip
This concludes my special top 5 addition featuring Lets Eat.  I hope it inspires some of you to give this drama a try.  It starts off a little slow but really gains momentum and heats up as the drama goes longer.....Kind of like Yoon Doo Joon's hotness levels.  Just be sure to eat before watching since if nothing else this drama will give you a serious case of the munchies.

Honorable Mentions (OK so it is almost another top 5 but we are going to pretend that it isn't.)

Death Threats
I don't know why, but there is something so sexy when a man (or in this case our hottie alien) gets so enraged that he loses all control and just thrashes the bad guy.  We were privileged to witness Do Min Joon go postal when he learned of Chun Song Yi's accident.  He flashes into our evil psycho's office flipping over furniture and pretty much making it look like a tornado hit.  He then grabs big bad by the collar (seriously this guy is crazy since he just continues to laugh) and when that is not intimidating enough he transports them to the roof and dangles psycho over the edge.  And when he still does not seem afraid he lets him fall almost all the way to his death.  Min Joon stops him barely a foot away from impact and threatened him: “If anything happens to that woman, I will come back to kill you. You said you have a lot of things to lose. I’ll make sure you know the taste of losing them one by one. In the end you will lose everything, and I will show you what utter destruction is.” He then lets him fall the last bit of the way scraping up his face.  It was truly one of those moments that makes you appreciate a man who can kill another with such drama.  Also congrats to the amazing special effects and directing of this scene that was done with no green screen.  They were all hooked up to wires and did the stunts on an actual building.  Sometimes going old school makes the effects even better.
I Will Kill You Clip

Monday Couple is Back
Those of you who watch variety shows surely know about Monday Couple Gary and Song Ji Hyo from Running Man.  They have been flirting and charming us every weekend for years and it was to everyone's surprise that we get to see Gary do a cute cameo on Emergency Couple as Song Ji Hyo's taxi driver. She sings as he drags her to the car and keeps calling him Gary...Gary.... to which he replies No I'm Dari (designated driver).  The scene ends with her telling him that she has a feeling she will love him on Monday.  Beyond cuteness and I truly wish that these two were a couple in real life.
Gary Cameo Clip

Wow, Wow, Wow!
That is what I kept saying during all of Inspiring Generation episode 8.  Well that and uncontrollable sobbing and gasping as the show packed in so many emotional and butt kicking scenes that I wondered if they were going to have anything left for the rest of the drama.  It had everything from sword fights, shirtless training, cute romantic moments, epic bromances, gun battles, and one very pasty white kick ass vampireesque Korean who manages to look so so yummy and menacing all at the same time.  Seriously this was all in one episode.  Again if you are not watching this drama and like action genre at all........then you need to start this one ASAP.  It has better action then Bridal Mask and better written then City Hunter (only thing CH has above this one is Lee Min Hottness Ho).  It is quickly becoming my must watch drama of the week.
Gaya and Mo Il-Hwa Fight (admit it, he totally looks like he escaped from the set of Twilight)

A Proposal
I watch Potato Star 2013QR3 for the fun comedy it brings in every episode.  It is the perfect light filler in between all of my emotional dramas (I'm talking to you Inspiring Generation and My Love From Another Star).  For the most part there is no big stressers in this drama, the one exception being the accident and memory lost of the oldest brother No Min-Hyuk (Ko Gyung-Pyo - Flower Boy Next Door).  After his accident (which resulted in glass fragments being embedded in his brain) he reverted to his 10 year old self and lost all memories after that time.  Unfortunately for him he also started having his "first love", while in this younger state, for the girl who lives in his garage (Yes she and her mother really do live in his garage). Na Jin-A (Ha Yeon-Soo-Monstar) has been his anchor while he went through these scary events and while we don't know how she feels about him romantically (it is kind of hard to really have a romance when the guy has the maturity of a tween) she has become close with him emotionally.  Realizing that unless he regains his memory he will always remain just an extra stress in other people's lives and not be able to become an "adult".  Min-Hyuk decides to go through a risky surgery to remove the remaining fragments and hopefully regain his memories.  He asks Na Jin-A to go to the amusement park with him the day before the surgery and at the end of the day he sits with her and tells her that he loves her.  That he is going to have this surgery because even death is better then where he is now.  And if he comes out of the surgery as an adult would she marry him.  It was a truly tender and beautiful scene in a drama that I am used to being breezy and happy.
Amusement Park Proposal Clip

This time it is truly the end, and this experience also makes me realize that I am glad I only do the top 5 best moments of kdrama each week and not the top ten.  It takes some serious time to throw this all together when I start adding things.  However, I hope you all enjoyed the little extra effort this week and can watch/start these great dramas that will have you laughing, crying, and probably sleep deprived in no time.  Be sure to tune in next week to see if the new drama Full Sun is any good and if it can find a spot on our top 5.  Til then, keep on watching.

Sincerely,
Kmuse

A New Batch of Dramas

It has been several months since I last weighed in on the new dramas available for watching so I figure it is the perfect time to do some kdrama initial thought recaps.  Just in case there are those of you out there trying desperately to find that next great drama.   We have a wide variety of shows available, from romantic comedy, to fast paced action, and add in a couple new daily dramas to round everything out.  There is a bit of everything in the mix.

Can We Love (Could We Love)
I LOVE THIS DRAMA......Seriously I truly love this drama.  All of the cast is highly entertaining and somehow I have been sucked into their lives and trials and am very invested in how it all turns out.  The story revolves around three friends (since they were in high school) and how at thirty nine their lives have turned out different then they expected.  It is a rare drama where all of the men are highly likable and not only that but the women (despite all of their messed up women issues) are also likable.  Rather then be over dramatic and depressing, you instead are able to see a reality to their lives that is often missing in kdramas.  That is not to say that you still do not have some traditional kdrama elements, but they seem to be muted which makes a person a lot more invested in everyone's story.  I suggest giving yourself three episodes with this drama and I bet you will find yourself surprisingly addicted (I say this from experience since I have suggested it to multiple friends so far and everyone has had the same experience).  So if you are looking for something a little more realistic and less fantasy relationship then give this drama a whirl.  You wont regret it and will be blessed to see one of the best kdrama kisses along the way (Check out my weekly countdown this week for the kiss clip).
Can We Love Trailer

Inspiring Generation (Age of Feeling)
There is nothing greater then being within the emotional grips of an awesome action drama.  And to be honest, while there have been some great dramas that have included action scenes, there has not been a lot of dramas that I would define as action dramas.  Often if a drama is all action then it loses out on the plot/writing (Iris 2) or tends to be more of an intellectual fighting (Nine, Two Weeks).  So it is with the utmost pleasure that I have discovered that Inspiring Generation (Age of Feeling) has the best of both.  I seriously care about the stories of all the different characters, and if you have checked out the cast list you will see that that is an insane amount of characters to introduce.  Whether it is the leads, the assassins/minions, messed up fathers, or murderous grandfathers, each character is introduced into the story and forms a connection with the viewer.   And can I again point out how rare that is?  So regardless if you are a huge action fan, or hate period pieces, give this one a chance, its amazing writing and directing might drag you into a great drama experience.

Inspiring Generation/Age Of Feeling Trailer

A Well Raised Daughter
If you took the feel of Baker King and Married it to every gender bender drama the you would  pop out A Well Raised Daughter. They created a mix of charming, cunning, and family squabbles and the result is an entertaining drama that is not too stressful and the perfect for my weekend dramathon needs.  The leading lady is the youngest of four daughters (just so you know daughters are totally worthless in this family) and because her mother can not produce a male heir she is kicked out when her best friend instead bears the needed boy.  Her husband dies and she finds out that she is pregnant with another daughter, but in order to survive they disguise the child as a boy and get back into the grandfathers good graces.  Raised as a boy, she must fight for her right to learn the family Soy Sauce business while avoiding love and discovery. I am enjoying this drama and its light plot really suits my tastes.   And for some reason even the bickering/stupid mothers don't annoy me as much as they usually do.  I would highly suggest this drama to anyone needing an easy filler and at forty episodes in, I am still a huge fan of the show.

Angel's Revenge
For those of you who are new to following my blog posts, then you might not yet realize that I have a slight daily drama addiction.  And by daily dramas I mean the one's that are aired Monday - Thursday and have 30 min episodes.  They tend to have a large episode count (100-130) and are awesomely addicting.  You never know if you are going to fall into a total gem of a drama like Ugly Alert, or one that is going to have you cursing the tv (Cruel Love).  But regardless of how they end, they all provide one heck of a rush.  The newest daily drama available is Angel's Revenge.  It is about a women (who is on the cusp of taking the vows of a nun).  However fate intervenes and her sister dies a tragic death.  The main actress of course then throws off her habit to take revenge on the evil family that killed her sister.  All while falling in love with one of the sons of so said evil family.  They pretty much had me when they said Vengeful Nun.  It just barely started so we are not yet to any smiting, but there have been a lot of cute OTP meetings and I am a fan of both leads previous work, so I have high hopes.  If you are looking to check out this drama then it is being subbed on Youtube on the KBS youtube Channel.

Emergency Couple
I am so sad that I am not enjoying this drama more and I can pinpoint one giant hunky reason why....Choi Jin Hyuk is a total complete whiny self absorbed jerk.   And I know that having a total jerk as the male lead is common in dramas, so when I say he is a jerk I mean that there is no redeeming qualities to his person in the first two episodes at all.  However if we ignore that large pretty mess of a character the rest of the drama is actually interesting.  Song Ji Hyo has never been a favorite actress of mine (I pretty much like her in Running Man and that is it) but she is very entertaining and I totally find myself rooting for her character.  She came out of a HORRIBLE MARRIAGE (did I mention these two should never ever ever be remarried) and built her life back overcoming a lot of hardships.  I am interested in her interaction with the other doctors, including the other male lead (who I of course prefer), and cant wait to see what she does next.  So in conclusion, if you are looking for a must watch drama then this is not it, but if you want something different then you might give this one a try.

I Need Romance 3

I wont spend a ton of time describing this drama since it is currently the drama I am reviewing for Crazy Ahjummas.  Just know that it is awesome, beautiful, and has Sung Joon and his uber sexy voice in it.  If you are not already watching it and modern comedy romances are your thing, then quickly get caught up and be sure to read my reviews (HINT HINT HINT.....obvious and non subtle promotion of my recaps HEHE).

Coming Soon
The Ghost Seeing Detective Yoon Cheo Yong

I have been waiting FOREVER for this drama to finally air.  This drama has been pushed back at least once for sure and I cant help but feel like it was maybe even twice.  It was scheduled to come out back when everything was ghost this and ghost that (Masters Sun and Who Are You) so it was probably in its best interest to give viewers a chance to recover.  It is by far the creepiest if you are judging by the trailers.  Add in that it is a cable drama (not to mention the awesomely scary trailers) and we could possibly be seeing some serious freaky deaky stuff coming our way.  Be sure to look for this drama airing next month and it goes without saying that it will be joining in the competition to be featured on my top five countdown.

 Full Sun (Beyond the Clouds)
We are surprisingly light on the melo revenge/tragic love style dramas right now.  So those of you who love to cry should be looking forward to Full Sun (is possibly going to officially be called Beyond the Clouds but for now just going to stick with Full Sun).  It has everything you could want.  Accidentally killings, jewel thieves, falling in love with people you shouldn't, and some very pretty criers.  From what I have heard our leading man kills the leading females fiancee and after he has served his prison sentence he comes back and falls in love with her.  So more or less a reverse secret??  Whatever the plot I am always up for a pretty melodrama so I am in.  Check out the beautiful trailer below and look for it to be out mid February.

This concludes my winter recap of airing dramas.  I hope you can find a couple to try out and be sure to watch for my weekly top kdrama moments coming out every Sunday as well as my I Need Romance 3 and Dongsaeng's My Love From Another Star recaps.  And if you have any dramas that I missing from my list please send me a quick note.  Or if you are wondering where you can find subs for any of the dramas listed let me know since I am happy to give you all the links.  Til next time, enjoy your dramas.

Watching Everything So You Dont Have To: My thoughts on the currently airing dramas

So about 2 months ago a huge amount of dramas all started at the same time.  And while I eventually chose Pretty Man to do weekly reviews on, there were still a lot of quality dramas out there and I dont want them to be missed because of a lack of info or chatter. So since I have this strange obsession to watch everything (you do not want to even imagine the time I spend watching dramas every week) I decided to do a quick synopsis of your currently airing options and whether they are worth checking out or not.

Prime Minister and I
This drama is my pick for sleeper hit of the winter kdrama season.    As i had mentioned in an earlier post, there was a ton of raised eyebrows when it was announced that Yoona would be playing the female lead.  In case you are unaware, in her past dramas she has not always been that well received as an actress.  And while I never really had an opinion about her, when it comes to someone playing opposite Lee Beom-Soo (who I TOTALLY love) then I get a bit picky and she was not my idea of a good match with him.  HOWEVER..........  I totally take back all my prejudices because this couple is awesome applesauce on custard.  Every week they become more and more charming as a couple and the huge age gap between them is nonexistent.  With minimal angst and amazing chemistry, this would be my choice for drama that would be to almost everyone's liking.  It is the perfect cozy romance to fulfill your romantic comedy needs.

My Love From Another Star
If Prime Minister and I is a cozy romantic comedy, then this one is the Drama you want when you want to be on pins and needles during every scene.  Talk about actors sizzling with chemistry, you don't get more sizzle then between Kim Soo Hyun and Jun Ji Hyun.  The take romance to a whole different level as the tug and pull in an intense romance that has a million and one hurdles to overcome.  How are they going to get them together long term when she is human and he is an alien that lives forever and never ages.  How are they going to not get killed by the puppy/people killing machine that is Lee Jae Kyung?  Is she ever going to be able to eat chicken and beer whenever she wants?  Hopefully we will get the answers to all these questions and more as we watch and love the roller coaster ride that is this drama.  It has been a long time since I have wanted to re-watch a show the second I am done watching it the first time, so this is on my MUST WATCH IT IS GOING TO BECOME A KDRAMA CLASSIC list.

Empress Ki
Oh Empress Ki how I really want to be in love with you, but there is just something stopping me from that last commitment.  I am pretty sure it is the neanderthal king that you keep trying to make me like... Yup, that's the problem.  What is a girl to do when you like one of the love triangle over the other and that is not the one that the show is trying to sell you on, why you get really cranky of course.  The sets, costumes, and cinematography of this drama is amazing.  Visually it is beyond stunning, however some of the choices the writers have gone with I have a problem with (keep in mind that this is just a problem I personally have, this is one of those dramas that you are definitely going to have a bias one way or the other so my problems might not be your problems).  In the first 12 episodes or so I loved the female character.  She was tough, fearless and smart.  But then they put her in a dress and dumbed her down....a lot....... It is something I have always had a problem with in Sageuk dramas, they start with strong women but eventually everything they do revolves around some man.  This drama so far is no different.  Whenever she thinks, sees, or hears about the King she turns into a moping sissy girl that is all things annoying.  However, I am hoping that since this is a 50 episode drama we will get past this and get some of the feisty female power back once she becomes empress.  In this case I would much rather watch court intrigue then the lackluster romance.

One Warm Word
I will be honest, I usually avoid the whole cheating spouse horrible divorce dramas like the plague.  However a friend of mine told me that I had to at least give this one a chance and so here I am reviewing it.  It was surprisingly well written, acted, and very interesting.  Rather then focus on the beginning of an affair and all the lying and horrible things that come about because of it, this one starts at the end of an affair and a women's efforts to fix her marriage.  I have found myself really interested in finding out what happens to both couples and while this is not a must watch ASAP drama, I do enjoy seeing what happens each week.  It is very well acted and I find myself hoping that certain couples do work out their problems.

Let's Eat
Never will you watch a show that sexualizes the eating of food more then this drama and it is freaking hilarious.  With a whole slew of quirky characters, this drama is one of those hidden gems that is flying under the radar right now.  It will have you laughing and craving food with an intensity that will surprise you (they even made seafood look good and I am very anti-seafood).   I was hesitant with the casting of this drama but after enjoying six episode (only airs one episode a week on Thursday) I can totally suggest this drama to anyone who wants a fun guilty pleasure.

Let's Eat Opening MV

Golden Rainbow
My last drama I want to discuss is Golden Rainbow.  The drama is about a man who adopts 5 orphans and their interconnecting lives with the owner of a fishing empire.  While this drama does have its faults (personally there are a lot of extra characters that I could care less about) it does have a very solid core story and the OTP is very very interesting.  It is probably one of my favorite family dramas that has been released this year and so I would suggest it to those that don't mind a longer drama and a little bit of plot filler.  It is worth it just to watch Jung Il Woo romance the girl.

UPCOMING:
I figured I would do a quick shout out to the new dramas that are being released this month.  As usual I am planning on watching them all, although at this moment, none of them are really making me excited beyond the fact that they are starring some actors I like.
I Need Romance 3
I am so hesitant to watch this drama.  Mostly because I was NOT a fan of the first two in the franchise.  I was always upset that the women would be in these very very dysfunctional relationships, go out and find new men, but then end up back with the losers they originally were with.  AGAIN I STATE I WAS NOT A FAN.  However, I really love Sung Joon (White Christmas, Shut Up Flower Boy Band, Gu Family Book) so I am going to bite the bullet and give this drama a chance.  On an up note it looks like he is the rebound boyfriend so at least we don't have to worry about her going back to her original loser relationship (if they do go that direction I might have to send the writers some hate mail).  Not to mention that this is going to be a noona romance and I am a total sucker for noona romances.

So I was totally being a good Kmuse and finding the trailer for you guys but the video uploader was being horrible and refusing to do it for me.  So please click on the link above and put it into your web browser.  It is an awesome trailer.  And just to make up for it I will add a pretty picture of Sung Joon coming back to Korea:)

Emergency Couple
What happens when a couple marries young, divorces, and then finds themselves reunited at work?  We will find out when this Tvn comedy starts airing in two weeks.  It looks cute and I am very happy that Choi Jin Hyuk is back on a drama so soon after Heirs ended and even happier that he is finally the male lead.  However I have never really been a fan of Song Ji Ho's dramas in the past, but the fact that this is a comedy and not her usual historical/melodrama might make a difference.  Fingers crossed, this provides me with something entertaining to watch on the weekends.

Age Of Feeling

I dont know why I am not more excited about this drama.  I love historical dramas and action dramas and these looks like it is going to be both.  I personally thing that Basketball has made me weary of any drama set in this time period.  Adding the fact that one of my least favorite actresses (Jin Se Yun of Gaskital and Five Fingers) is the lead and my interest just starts to wain.  But I will give it a chance and hope that like in Gaskital the lead actress loses focus as the drama goes forward.

This concludes my midway review of the winter 2013/2014 dramas.  I hope that this has helped you pick out your next drama and that you let me know if you like any of them or if i missed something in the comments.  Also since Pretty Guy is finishing this week I will be deciding what to do next.  Since I am really unsure about the upcoming dramas I have decided to do a Top 5 moments of the Week  post every week until I start a new recap.  I hope that this way I can share some of my favorite moments in currently airing dramas and maybe interest people into giving new dramas a try.  Hope you have an amazing week and be sure to check back for my conclusion to Pretty Guy.

Sincerely,
Kmuse
