Kmuse's Musings: When Photographs Click

I don't want you all to think that I hate all of the Korean photos.  There are definitely those that make you say WHAT THE HECK??  But there are just as many that I actually love, and some of them even involve extremely busy prints.  For me it is all about the overall visual feel of the photograph.  So here are some of my favorites that have come out in the past month or so.

Hyun Bin - W Korea (May issue), High Cut vol 124, Cine21
With the release of his latest movie, Hyun Bin has been the golden boy of photo shoots.  Enjoy my favorites out of all his pictures.
Love the blending of the colors between his shirt and the horse.

This is a set of photographs where I think the busy outfit really worked.  It added to the classic 1950's feel of the photos.
Hyun Bin in a classic suit is never a look that can go wrong

Lee Jong Suk - CeCi May 2014, Dazed and Confused April 2014
This one is one of my favorites, I love how the color of the shirt complements the roses behind him.  Also does not hurt that it is one of my favorite colors
The colors and the symmetry of the photo really make this one pop and frames him well.  Would I want to see this on him in public (no no no no no, please no!), but as a photo it is very eye catching.
Again a very busy print that really works as a photo.  Gorgeous colors and I like that it is matched with plain white pants so his face and the jacket are the showpieces.

I love the filter that the photographer used on these photos.  Between that and the clothes they make for the perfect photo shoot.  I personally like this style of clothing on him the best.  Young and dynamic.

Lee Min Ho - L’Officiel Hommes Korea’s May 2014 Issue

I will be honest, I am usually not a fan of Lee Min Ho's pictorials.  They almost always are a little flat for my tastes.  However I really appreciated the layering and colors of this suit on him.

Park Hae Jin - Men’s Uno China

The primary colors in these photos are amazing! And I love the contrast of the blue in the 2nd photo.  Oh and PHJ is looking his utmost best as well.

I hope you enjoyed these photos as much as I have.  In the future I would love to post more photographs good and bad since it is personally a hobby of mine.  Be sure to check back for the return of my recaps of Gap Dong and Witch's Romance!  So excited they are back.  Also be sure to like our FB page for daily conversations about various Korean entertainment topics, MV's and all the latest TCA news.  https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-crazy-ahjummas

Kmuse Musings: More Fashion Fails.

It is a slow day here for me with all my dramas being postponed this last week.  So to fill the time I searched for more recent photos (mostly from magazines) that portrayed styles that I just am not a fan of.  Now I would like to clarify that this is in no way a reflection on the actors or singers themselves.  I personally love the majority of them.  Unfortunately there are times when hot actors/actresses just meet bad fashion and it needs to be commented on.

Hyun Bin - High Cut April 2014
There is nothing hotter on a guy than putting a  large printed knit flower sweater over a silky flower printed dress shirt.....said no one ever.  (Seriously we are so lucky he is uber hot to distract us from this clash of flower print)

Lee Sungmin - Star Magazine April 2014

I actually like the color of the outfit and the outfit itself is alright (not my favorite but the color is so bold you don't notice unless you really focus).  However, the random stuffed doll on the shoulder ruins the picture for me.  I hate when they just add random stuff, just because.

Jeon Ji Hyun - Harpers Bazarr China April 2014
I actually have no problems with the dress, my issue is with the giant pearl jewelry.  I am not a fan of the style and it distracts me from the rest of this photo.  The huge bauble on her throat makes me think of a mating frog.

Song Seung Heon & Im Ji Yeon - Vogue Korea

I am on the fence with this photo. On one hand I hate what she is wearing, but there is something attractive about Song Seung Heon even in that busy print.  I put it up and you can decided for yourself whether it is a fashion fail or success.

Yoo Ah In - High Cut 2014

I'll be honest, I am not a fan of shorts on guys for the most part.  At least not in pictorials.  But add a long coat (the same length as the shorts) and hot winter sweater and my initial glance had me thinking: "Why is he not wearing any pants?"

Lee Jong Suk CeCi April 2014

OK everyone, I know that his clothes are not really what you are looking at in this photo (seriously I saw this maybe 4 times before I even realized he had clothes on) but lets take a look at those pants.  Can I just say OUCH my poor poor eyes.  That is truly one ugly print.  Add the fact that it probably looks even worse when combined with the rug.  If you are going to look at this photo again be sure to focus on his abs since the rest does not make him look his best.

That is all for now.  I am sure there will be more fashion fails in the future, so don't worry this segment will be back.  But not all photos are all bad prints and ugly accessories.  Tomorrow or Thursday I will be putting out a list of some of my favorite photos that have been released in the last while.

Til Then,

Kmuse's Musings: What Where They Thinking?

I actually had a fun time writing about the ugly turtleneck trend a couple weeks ago and it made me think that I would like to occasionally post pictures where our Korean actors and idols are forced to wear clothes that just make you sit back and say what the heck???  So with that in mind, please enjoy the latest installment of Kmuse's Musings.  Also if you have any ideas for a good name for this blog segment that I could use for future fashions fails please let me know. My brain is drawing a blank so far.

Lee Jun Ki - Harper’s Bazaar China April 2014
I grew up in Wyoming and this is something similar to what you would find being sold in the local truck stop (in suit form of course).  I am pretty sure no one ever said dressing up in ginormous horsey print suit is sexy.  That said, I do like the color of the suit matching with his hair and if it was minus the equestrian print I would be a big fan of this photo.

Kang Ji Hwan - The Celebrity Magazine January Issue ‘14

I am not quiet sure what the photographer was going with this look.  It has an almost turtleneck which ruins the tight shirt for me, also the sleeves just look off in length.  Add the balloon pants that are too short and floppy hat and it just takes it to that next level of WTH.  The rest of the photos from this magazine actually are really good and make him look amazing, so I am baffled as to why this one was added.

Aaron Yan - Fall In Love With Me
Our last bad fashion moment of the week comes from the new Taiwanese Drama "Fall In Love With Me" where Aaron Yan is forced into a suit that is a cross of a Mozart revival in the front and some kind of massive embroidery project on the back.  The guy is beyond hot so I hate to see him in something that is so distracting from his good looks.  However it looks like the stylist for this show is determined to make him stand out in ugly outfits.

Be sure to let me know if you have any suggestions for a title for this segment in the comment section.  Til next time.

Kmuse's Musings: When Hot Guys Meet Bad Fashion

Earlier this week I was minding my own business, watching my shows as usual, when something truly horrible came to pass.  Now I have been noticing that this fashion has been the trend for a while and I have actually been tempted to post multiple times about my dislike for this article of clothing.  But due to time constraints from weekly recaps, I was never really able to truly rant like I wanted to.  But this was just too much.  They actually made Yoo Chun look (at least in my opinion) just so so attractive by putting him in the ugliest beige turtleneck/jacket combo.  Seriously?  What stupid stylists think that the turtleneck is attractive.
Instead of seeing the gorgeous necks that these actors have painstakingly developed into work of art, they are covered in these horrible clothes.  Anything that detracts me from how pretty the guys are, is not something that I appreciate.  And it was not just in three days, for the last sixth months our favorite actors have been forced into these abominations.  As far as I can remember the first time (at least that I noticed) was in Heirs when Lee Min Ho adorned that huge blue turtleneck that looked like it was slowly trying to eat his head.  And I will be honest, it was Lee Min Ho so I still thought he looked gorgeous.  But I remember being really distracted by the sweater and not able to really take seriously his crying to his father/melo breakdown.  The clothes kept taking me out of the moment.
There has been a whole list of dramas that have followed Heir's stylists, like a pack of lemmings, into this disaster of a trend.  Can we Love, Golden Rainbow, 3 Days, My Love From the Stars, Beyond the Clouds, and A Secret Love Affair are a few that I remember just off the top of my head.
I don't understand how a country who has literally perfected the haircut, (seriously they must have close to a hundred different hairstyles for men's hair....which can tell you just what type of character a person is playing) cant figure out how to make men look better during winter.  There are always scarves which have worked in the past.  Or you could just tell the actors to suck it up and show a little skin for the fans despite the chill.  I am seriously missing the deep v tight t-shirt trend of a couple years ago.
Or if nothing else put them in a well cut sweater (just without the neck) or sweatshirt.  I am not too picky.  There are a million options that could be a better fit.  But when you put someone who is supposed to be a tough, sexy, rebel agent and stick him in a beige shirt that leaves him looking like a ugly shirt with a head stuck on it (yes I am talking to you 3 days) you totally lose the sexy vibe.  When in doubt feel free to go towards black leather, as a fan/kdrama viewer, that is always appreciated.  Or if you are really having a problem, just stick them in a shower.  Because if there is one thing we all love, it is a random gratuitous shower scene.
In all fairness there was one exception to the turtlenecks make you look less sexy rule.  In Let's Eat I actually thought that Yoon Doo Joon rocked the look in episode 15 so I had to be sure and mention that one exception.
But that is the ONLY exception that I can think of from the last year.  So look at him as an outlier and for all that is holy, stop putting our khotties in these horrible shirts.  Thankfully it is the end of winter, and if we are lucky, a lot more skin should start coming our way.  Cherry blossoms and less winter clothes make me a fan of spring, especially this year.  What are your least favorite kdrama/kpop fashion trends?  Be sure to let us know in the comments or on our Facebook page:)
