Top 5 Kdrama Countdown - April Week 3

And we are back from our hiatus!  Hope you all missed me this last week and are ecstatic to have me share my top moments of the week.  We have a lot of new shows debuting as well as a goodbye to a countdown favorite.  So sit back and enjoy all the little kdrama tidbits coming your way.  As usual if you have any questions about any dramas that are currently airing or just have a comment about the blog feel free to leave them in the comment section.  I am always happy to help others find the best streaming for various kdramas.

Song of the week

BlockB "Jackpot"

It took me listening to this song a couple times before I really started enjoying the hodgepodge style.   I like that all the members get their time in the spotlight in the MV as well as in the vocals, and the chorus is extremely catchy.  But where it really shines is in the MV where the BlockB boys kidnap a poor girl and proceed to torment/love her with their own brand of crazy.  It perfectly fits their unique style and is visually entertaining and stunning at the same time.

 #5 The Perfect Murder

This week in Gap Dong we see the copycat killer not only kill a second girl, but get away with it in a masterful way.  It is hard to recreate the original killings when the police all are on the alert on what is going to happen.  In the original murder the girl was picked up from a bus stop and found on January 7th  under straw bales.  She also was wearing a distinctive red article of clothing.  In order to prevent a second murder the police take away all the aspects of the original crime by burning all the hay and shutting down the bus routes.  

However our killer thought ahead and pre-killed his prey before the expected date.  And instead of out in a field, she was covered in hay in her workshop.  It is always nice when you can find a good evil character, and Lee Joon is the best I have seen in any drama.  Can't wait to find out what happens next.

#4 Tal Tal and Nyang

Through forty episodes I watched Nyang be emotionally involved with both King Wang Yoo and Emperor Ta Hwan, and while I have been a staunch Ta Hwan fan from the beginning, I think I am ready to jump away from both "ships" and put my support to team Tal Tal.  Yes, I know that they don't have "that" kind of relationship, but a fan can dream.  I love how he has slowly grown to respect her over the show and now is one of  her staunchest supporters.  Both feel a strong fondness for each other and their shared ideals for the country.  It is a connection that has slowly surpassed any possible love line in this drama (at least for this viewer).  Empress Ki ends this week and while I am not going to miss having it be part of my lineup (after 50 episodes it is time to say goodbye) I will miss seeing Tal Tal's pretty face on my screen every week.

#3 Father and Son Reunite

The funniest reunion of the week, and our #3 spot,  has to be between the father and son cop duo of Bitter Blood (Partners of Blood).  Natsuki Sahara (Takeru Sato - Bloody Sunday) is a rookie detective assigned to the violent crimes division.  Unfortunately for him he is now partnered up with his deadbeat dad, Akimura Shimao (Atsuro Watabe) who had deserted the family thirteen years earlier.  At first glance, they are complete opposites.  One is flashy and a ladies man, while the son is sensitive and emotional.  They must not only learn how to work together as partners, but relearn how to be a family.  Both characters are just all kinds of adorable and I love watching their antics.  The fact that they are related just makes it all the better.

#2 God's Gift Ends With a Splash

I am going to avoid all spoilers for the ending of Gods Gift.  Instead I will just say that after mulling over the situation I have come up with my own opinion on the ending that I am OK with.  That being said, I still give this drama high ratings for remaining interesting and suspenseful from start to finish.  Also thanks for introducing a wider audience to the amazing abilities and hotness of leading man Cho Seung-Woo.  He is already back doing a musical right now, but I hope to see him in another drama ASAP.

#1 A Witch's Seduction

It does not take a genius to know why I chose this as my #1 moment of the week (It might have been my number one of the previous week but since there was the hiatus I am extending it over).  In episode 2 of Witch's Romance (be sure to check out my recaps of this drama) we see our OTP get a bit tipsy and then really really really really really steamy.  Seriously how awesome is it that we get intense make out scene in episode 2.  If we were going to measure it on a hotness/sexy meter it would definitely be a 10+.  Check out the photos and clip for yourself to see why you should be watching this hilarious drama.

Top 5 Kdrama Countdown - April Week 2

Scary birds, serial killers, hormonal angst, and the cast of  running man discovering new uses for a water bottle, are all in this weeks top 5 kdrama countdown.  Come and join us as we discuss this weeks best moments as well as some newly airing dramas.

#5 So Many Unexplained Birds

Hotel King debuted this week and surprisingly made our #5 spot on the countdown.  I say surprisingly due to the fact that I did not particularly love this drama (at least so far).  But the closing scene in ep. 2 really left a lasting impression so onto the list it goes.  Ah Mo-Ne (Lee Da Hae - Iris 2, My Girl), the pampered heiress is in mid fight with her nemesis sexy Cha Jae Wan (Lee Dong Wook- My Girl, Scent of a Woman), when she stomps off across the courtyard.  We hear a ear piercing scream when she sees a couple pigeons on the ground.

Now this might seem like a random scene to enjoy, but it leads us to the closing scene where some unknown intruder leaves  a little warning (a pigeon corpse) on her bed.  This sends her into a catatonic state and also allows our cold lead to see her vulnerable and needy.  It was a great scene because not only does it bring our OTP closer together but also brings up the question "Why is she so freaked out over birds?"  Did one poop on her designer shoes?  Peck at her crazy hats?  Cant wait to find out the answer and that alone will keep me watching this drama despite the lead girl's horrible acting.

#4 Teenage Hormones and Angst

Wild Chives and Soy Bean Soup has remained in my top favorite dramas several weeks running (seriously, I can't get enough of this drama).  The sparks and plot heated up this week as our two young leads find themselves alone in the house  watching soccer, and drinking a huge amount of champagne.   It is no surprise when the extreme touching and hugging due to the soccer game turns into something more and our two cute teens take their skinship to the next level.  However due to misunderstandings, insecurities, and just plain teenage angst, their morning after is not the thing of dreams.  I love how this drama truly sucks you into their emotional state.  It makes me truly thankful that I will never have to experience my teenage years again.

#3 A Terrifying Smile

I personally am just barely figuring out who MBLAQ is so this is my first experience really noticing the idol turned actor Lee Joon.  Friends who are a lot more obsessive in their fandom then I, began posting stills and teasers for this drama featuring him and I was instantly hooked.  This guys creepy smile is spectacular and now I can't help just thinking he is a psychopath anytime I see his photo.  But it was his ability to instantly go from normal guy to crazy killer by a twist of facial muscles that really brought this character to life.  

An inmate in the psych ward (we currently don't know for what) he makes even other inmates nervous and he always seems to be wherever there is Gap Dong drama going down.  His pointed interest in our leading man is sinister from the get go and when he interacts with the doctor I get shivers.  I predict that he is going to be visiting my countdown again soon.

#2 The Death of Saet Byeol: Take 2

We have made it all the way from the first death of our little girl Saet Byeol to the unfolding of the same events a second time.  For those of you who don't know the premise of Gods Gift - 14 Days I will provide a brief synopsis.  

Kim Soo Hyun's daughter is murdered by a serial killer.  For some unknown reason she is given a second chance and must relive the past 14 days in an attempt to find the killer and save her daughter. 

This drama is truly brilliant.  The writing is so extremely tight and intricate that you can rewatch from episode 1 and see layers upon layers of clues that are just playing out in the last few episodes.  We are finally back to the beginning where Saet Byeol is kidnapped, but thanks to the efforts of Soo Hyun events progress slightly differently leaving clues that will eventually lead to the truth and hopefully save our mini heroine.   It is fascinating to watch the same thing happen, yet see the differences.  Can't wait to find out what the drama brings us this week.

#1 How to Properly Use a Water Bottle

I about died from laughing so hard during this last episode of  the popular variety program Running Man and it is all thanks to one hilarious guest.  Ryu Seung Soo (Wonderful Days) was teamed up with Jae Suk  to complete various games/contests and advance in the competition.  It just so happens that one of those games involved a construction cone going up one's booty.  Between the two men they had to sit on this construction cone for a total of 3 minutes.  Sounds easy in theory, however the reality of a pointy object inserted near one's bum is nothing to scoff at.  After failing once they again have to attempt the quest and Ryu Seung Soo gets on the cone and totally goes into a zen induced zone.  He achieves the needed time but trips as he is getting off the painful object.  Unfortunately for him, it is discovered that he had cheated by putting a water bottle down his pants to protect his most sensitive area.  This is truly not only winning this weeks coveted #1 spot, but also going on my list of favorite Running Man moments of all time.  Let's just say that if Ryu Seung Soo ever decides to do variety, I will be an avid viewer of anything he is on.

Top 5 Kdrama Countdown - April Week 1: Khottie Edition

This weeks countdown is being dedicated to something that makes kdramas so engaging, addicting, and worth watching.  Of course I am talking about the massive amount of hot guys that are cast as the leading men.  There is nothing better then being able to fawn over a good actor and his amazing looks at the same time.  Now I know that I am watching a huge amount of dramas, and there are an insane amount of khotties within all those dramas.  That said, I tried to pick the one's that have actually engaged me with their performances and not just the fact that they are attractive.  If your favorite is not on my list, feel free to let us know who he is in the comment section.  I only have time to pick out five today, but I know there is an infinite amount of khotties to choose from.

CNBLUE - Truth

We have a whole band full of Khotties in our musician of the week since when you think of hot musicians CNBLUE should be at the top of the list.  They came out with their 2nd song off their current album and I personally like this one a lot better then their first one.  I like CNBLUE the best when they have that peppy fast beat and an MV with lots of close ups and it just so happens that this MV delivered the hot closeups in spades.  It is even enough to distract me from their Engrish in the chorus.

#5Yoo Joon Soo (Lee Won Geum - Moon Embracing the Sun, Passionate Love)

This kids smile is infectious and I can honestly say that I have never seen a khottie who's smile literally lights up his face.  His character in Wild Chives and Soy Bean Soup is the perfect package, handsome, smart, kind, and all around happy with (at least so far) no huge emotional issues.  He also shows signs of being adept in more serious scenes so I am kind of excited to see him deal with the romantic fallout that we know is coming.  If you like family dramas then I would highly suggest starting this one since it is well paced and has a superb cast.

#4 Red Headed Hottie from Empress Ki, also known as Tal Tal (Jin Lee Han)

I am embarrassed to admit that I seriously did not know the characters name until I was forced to look it up for this blog post.  To me and my friends whom I discuss this drama with, he has always been the redhead hottie who wears black.  He is also a balm to my poor soul, as politics and just the crazy behavior of royalty, make the two leading men more and more "eh" for me.  You know he is a good character when you kind of wish the leading lady would ditch both of the other men and hook up with the supporting character.  (I know his hair looks brown, but when he is not in a dark set it has really red tints hence the nickname.)

#3 Kang Dong Hee (TaecYeon - Who Are You, Dream High)

I am just going to come out and say it, TaecYeon is not really a great actor.  The poor boy has his limits.  That said I will clarify that although he can't emote, he still is a very entertaining actor and sometimes that is what a drama needs.  His character Kang Dong Hee (Wonderful Days) is the family black sheep/thug who always is getting into trouble with his quick temper and inferiority issues.  But I can't help but love him despite his serious character flaws.  This week we see him get angry (AGAIN) and he stomps off like a five year old, running away from home..... All the way to the end of the street where he sets up a tent to live in protest.  I love how his first night "away from home" he keeps staring at his phone and wondering why no one is calling.  "Don't they realize I am gone?" he says to the silent phone.  HAHAHA  And as an added bonus of his being cast, we get wonderful scenes like this one in the sauna.  Thank goodness for Khotties and their need to have the perfect abs.

#2 The Men of Inspiring Generation

So I am dedicating my #2 spot to the whole male cast of Inspiring Generation, because lets just all admit that they are the sexiest thing to come to historical kdramas in a long long time.  Seriously there are so many khotties in this show that it is almost impossible to choose a favorite (although Mo Il Hwa pulls slightly ahead on my bias list).  So I am weepy eyed and saying a sad farewell to this drama and its insanely hot cast.  You will be missed and most likely rewatched many times in the future.

#1 Ki Dong Chan (Jo Seung Woo - Horse Doctor)

When I decided to do a Khottie theme for this weeks countdown, there really was no question as to who my #1 pick was going to be.  Jo Seung Woo is AMAZING.  His acting is effortless and he drags you into his character Dong Chan (Gods Gift - 14 Days) so quickly, that before you know it you are actively praying for the leading ladies marriage to dissolve so he can step in.  He has a lot of baggage but he plays this complex character (ex-cop, brother of a serial killer, disappointing son, and white knight) to the 9th degree.  He outdid himself this week as he serenaded (YES HE CAN SING TOO!) the little girl at the lakeside.  It was a beautiful scene and probably one of the prettiest cinematic moments to be released recently.  And then in a complete switch we also had an amazing fight scene on a rickety roof top in the rain.  If you are not already watching Gods Gift 14 Days then start ASAP since he is definitely worth watching.

Vallès Symphony Orchestra Flash Mob

 It has been a really slow week in Kpop so to find something worthy of my top song, I actually decided to think outside the box and used a viral video that I love.  It is truly a spectacular performance worth watching even if classical music is not your thing.  In celebration of the 130th anniversary of the founding of Banco Sabadell a  100 people from the Vallès Symphony Orchestra, the Lieder, Amics de l'Òpera and Coral Belles Arts choirs joined to create an amazing flash mob.

#5 Sophisticated Women: Keeping it Classy.

Those of you following my blog posts probably already know that I really appreciate a strong female character.  Nothing is more annoying then having a great script, an amazing leading man, and then you are stuck with a pretty bauble of an actress that is thrown in just as a visual accessory.  Thankfully, there is no chance of that happening in the new drama "A Secret Love Affair".  Strong women have the run of the story as we are introduced not only to our main female lead Oh Hye Won (Kim Hee Ae - A Wife's Credentials) but also her two bosses Seo Young Woo (Kim Hye Eun -  Princess Aurora) and the mistress turned wife/stepmother Han Sung Sook (Shim Hye Jin -A Tale of Two Sisters).  Classy on the outside (seriously they are running one of the top musical arts school/charities in Korea) but pure thug on the inside.  At a family game night the daughter and step-mother get in a physical fight which results in Young Woo getting her head pushed into a toilet in the women's lounge.  HAHAHA  there is something just awesome about seeing grown sophisticated women do something so undignified.  But it is also nice that our heroine is no  wilting flower and pushes her way forward to stop the fight and fix everything so the women can pretend that nothing happened as they rejoin the party.

#4 The End of an Empress

 For the last twenty episodes we have had to watch the regent and his evil family dominate the Yuan court in Empress Ki.  But their comeuppance finally arrives and we get the execution scenes we have been waiting for.  In episode 38 Danashri is finally sentenced to death for her murderous actions and I could not have been happier. And true to form the empress did not accept death with dignity.  Instead she kept chucking the bowls of poison at the servants refusing to kill herself, forcing the king to declare that she would be hanged in the city square.  Til the end the empress refuses to admit any guilt for any of her actions which makes it all the more fascinating.  It was a great scene to end a storyline of a great evil character.  I also would like to give props to Baek Jin Hee for playing such a wonderful bad guy.  She looks so sweet and innocent and I was not sure if she could pull it off back in the beginning. But she has successfully become one of my favorite villains with her irrational brand of crazy.

#3 Piano - The Sexiest of Instruments

I am going to keep my comments on this in the PG range so those of you interested in seeing the very sexual overtones in this scene are going to have to watch the clip below.  Lets just say that the two leads in the new drama, "A Secret Love Affair", really really really get into their piano duet.  If you don't mind a slightly slower pace in a drama and enjoy a more artistic indie style of story, then be sure to check this one out.  It is very good, Yoo Ah In is looking delicious, and the leads chemistry is explosive.

#2 An Unconventional Wedding

No Soo Young & Jang Yool have been dating for a good fifty episodes now and while they were not originally my favorite characters, they slowly grew on me.  And their quirky and emotional wedding actually made my eyes tear up so it gets the privilege of being #2 on my weekly countdown.  Going against Soo Young's families wishes, the couple decide to get married.  The only problem is that they are now dirt poor and have only eight guests so no reception halls will host their wedding.  Undaunted, they decide to get married on the rooftop of Jang Yool's apartment building.  Which I think perfectly shows their personalities, unique and quirky.  And due to some behind the scenes gossiping, rushing, and kidnapping all of her family was able to show up in support of their sister/daughter, regardless of their past objections.  I truly love how this family fights all the time but when it comes to the important things, they are there for each other.

#1 Serial Killer: Behind Closed Doors

We have reached our #1 kdrama moment of the week, and it is a very intense moment.  God's Gift - 14 Days continues to be my weekly favorite.  It provides so much intensity in every scene that it boggles the mind that the writers can keep up this type of pace (knock on wood, cross fingers, throw salt over my shoulders.... don't want to jinx it.)  Kim Soo Hyun continues to go head first in the quest to save her daughter from an unknown foe.  However we get a huge hint as to who in episode 6 where we see her illegally search a suspects house.  Here she finds a bucket load of crazy serial killer paraphernalia as well as a stalker wall of photos of her daughter.  However the moment that really puts this scene into the top spot is right after the credits start, the scene pans out and we see a door slowly open revealing a silhouette of a man.   When it comes to intense cliffhangers, this drama wins the gold. That last scene still randomly pops into my head a week later and I can't wait to see what happens tomorrow.

Top 5 Kdrama Countdown - March Week 2

It is the the week of new dramas as we are flooded with all the newly started spring shows.  But don't worry since we have some veterans also coming in strong as a surprise show steals away the #1 spot from all the dramas.  Come check out what you have missed this week in Kmuse's Top 5 Kdrama Countdown.

Song of The Week - TROY "Green Light"

This song is my new addiction.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT.  This is TROY's debut song and with the wonderful jazz mixed with strong rap vibes it makes you want to listen to it over and over. Not to mention that all four members are truly charismatic and attractive.  It is also a nice change that they are all older than your usual newbies so you don't have to feel like a pedanoona if you think they are hot.  So be sure to check out their song "Green Light" and support this talented new group.

#5 Reunited

Our #5 spot is the debut of the drama Wonderful Days on our countdown.  Kang Dong Suk (Lee Seo Jin - Grandpa's Over Flowers, Gye-Bae) and Cha Hae-Won (Kim Hee Seon - Faith) are high school sweethearts that never had their happily ever after due to social conflicts and poverty.  Fast forward fifteen years later and Dong Suk returns to his hometown a rich prosecutor.  And in a twist of kdrama fate, Hae Won's family lost all their money and she is forced to be a money collector for a local loan shark.  They have a powerful scene where they see each other again while Hae Won is fighting with his younger brother over money.  This drama is a subtle but poignant drama about past love and family, it does not shove the plot in your face and instead lets the natural flaws of the characters to shine and move the plot along.  Be sure to check it out if you are a fan of the family drama.

#4 The Horse in the Garage 

Potato Star is known for its off the wall quirky plot lines.  However, they outdid themselves in episode 78 when the family becomes owners of a horse.   No Soo-Dong, the dad of the household, lent his friend money.  And when the mom demands that he be firm and get some payment from his friend, he is talked into taking a horse as collateral.  I suppose that is not to bad except that they live in the middle of the city so there is nowhere too store the horse but in their garage.  HAHAHA  Son, Hongberg falls in love with the horse and begins riding it around the city for all his errands.  And I do mean he rides it around for EVERYTHING, even a trip to buy soy sauce from the market.  This stand alone episode was truly amusing and endeared this quirky family to the viewers.  You have to love a drama where logic is made up to suit the story and is not afraid to be silly.

#3 Finally Talk Emotions

Sly and Cunning Lady has been an up and down mix of humor and serious issues that sometimes leaves the viewer unsure of the dramas direction.  While it fails in some of the side characters (the leads parents and some of the coworkers are truly so annoying) it really hits when dealing with the leads and the brother/sister B love interest storyline.  This week we FINALLY see Jung Woo & Ae Ra discuss the issues that ruined their marriage.  I personally really appreciated the addition of this scene since it is hard to want a couple to reunite when all of their problems remain in play.  Although if they had talked more and reacted less then maybe the whole divorce would have been mute to begin with.

#2 Serial Killer Showdown 

If you are not already watching God's Gift 14 Days, then stop reading this blog post and go find it.  This drama is AMAZING!  Extremely complex plots, an explosive leading lady, an emotionally damaged bad boy leading man, and serial killers/conspiracy plots galore make this drama an event.  I could easily make a whole countdown just from this show alone since literally every scene is intense and meaningful (probably should not watch before bed time since it will get you wired emotionally).  In episode 4 we find our heroine, Kim Soo-Hyun (Lee Bo Young - I Hear Your Voice), doing a bit too good of a job hunting down the local serial killer.  Such a good job that she interrupts his second murder and is attacked by him at knife point.  But if you think this inhibits our plucky heroine you would be mistaken.  She attacks him with a pen, stabbing him in his side and scuffling for the knife.  The whole scene was genius and really brought home the fact that our leading lady IS NOT a damsel in distress, but truly scary in her own right.

#1 Hotel Hijinks with Rain and Woo Bin 

I personally am a huge Running Man fan.  You can't help but fall in love with the witty athletic cast, and when they have my favorite actors and musicians on as guests, it just adds to the enjoyment.  This week they had reoccurring guest Kim Woo Bin (Heirs) and international superstar Rain joining them in their Australian adventure.  Searching for sunken treasure and communing with kangaroos and koala's kept the teams busy but the best part of the whole episode came at the end when they were relaxing in their hotel.  Let's just say that when you have a mini swimming pool in your guest sweet and add in eight boys, things are going to get wet.  Watch the following clip and enjoy the hijinks (not to mention Woo Bin looking adorable and sexy.... I swear he has gotten better looking in the last year).
