Twenty Again Episode 7 - Operation Bi-Polar Man Child

I felt that this was an episode full of individual operations.  For example, No Ra (now that her secret is outed to her family) was firmly in operation mom mode.  Because, sure No Ra might be finding herself, but that doesn't mean she is going to ignore her son (except in public, that is).  Or my personal favorite which is "Operation Get Our OTP Together", which sadly took a huge leap back as Hyeon Seok went into operation bi-polar mode upon realizing that No Ra wasn't dying and was still with her jerk of a husband.  So come join me as I discuss the various goals of our characters and where that leaves us.

Our OTP (one true pairing) finally connect on a verbal level!  Never have I been so happy to see someone wake up.  Now they just have to use each other to not only save the ones they love, but in the case of our sleeping beauty, to survive.  Because the clock is counting down for both our leads and the only way they can win is to work together.

Oh My Ghostess eps 5 and 6: The Life of the Temporarily Unpossessed

Before starting, I'd like to take a moment and apologize for the little break in recaps on this drama recently. As I was working furiously on this post a couple of weeks ago, I received notice of problems with the first one. In all honesty, the experience shook me and discouraged me pretty badly and so I stepped away for a bit before being able to talk myself into trying again. In the three years that this blog has been up and running, it was our first run in with the dreaded DMCA notice and I didn't take it so well. I hope you can bear with me as I try now to play catch up. And let's hope for the best that all the hours dumped into this post don't end up like the other one - victim of the delete key. Thank you for your patience and understanding and especially for your constant support. You are the reason I chose to press forward and not give up in that low moment of frustration, so thank you. I Remember You Episode 5 - The 10 Moments Seo In Guk Made Us Swoon in Episode 5

You know a person has charisma when it is difficult to focus on the actual plot because you are too busy staring at the leading man.  Seo In Guk is such an actor.  And it has been especially hard since he looks so spectacular in this drama.  It doesn't help that Hyeon's character is fascinating as well and I am second guessing his every eyebrow raise.  Does Hyeon actually know things that he is not sharing yet?  Is he suspicious of anyone?  Does he recognize his little brother (it has to be hottie lawyer....it just has to)?  So because it was so hard to focus, I am going to just let my inner fangirl go forth and write all about Hyeon and the moments we were swooning in episode 5.

Orange Marmalade Episode 5 - Hanbok and Vampires

Soooooooooooo.........  Who else was surprised when our story suddenly took a historical turn?  I guess the writers are getting all creative and telling 3 different stories, each 4 episodes apiece.  Not sure how I feel about that yet, but on an up note, they are keeping all the names the same, and best of all Shi Hoo is alive.  WOOT!

Mask Episode 5 - Fashion Fueled Makjang

Our OTP (one true pairing) is slowly becoming a power couple within Choi household.  Meanwhile Seok Hoon takes a break from crazy stalking Ji Sook to work on manipulating his own wife.  Just a normal day within the most dysfunctional, over the top family, in South Korea.  The best part is how fashionable they look while doing all their plotting, revenging, and in Ji Sook's case, living.  So come join Kmuse as she chats the fashion statements of episode 5.

Ouroboros Episode 5 - A Recap Quickie.

EEEEK!!!  New episodes are out and here I am back on episode 5 with my recaps.  Sorry for the delay, the show got slower being released (not that I am complaining since I am so thankful for the nice person subbing this drama for us! Fighting!) and life got busy.  So in order to keep my promise to myself and not watch ahead of my recaps, I am giving you episode 5 the abridged version.  Luckily this episode was slow on the mass murder side of things and heavy in the moral decision making which will allow me to breeze through so you and I can move onward.

Hyde, Jekyll, and I Episode 5 - Board The Seo Jin & Robin Ship

I am still on the mend from earlier this week when I had a very unpleasant bout of the flu so this post is going to be short and sweet and mostly full of my thoughts and impressions so far.  Impressions such as why I am kind of bored with our leading lady.  Does this drama remind anyone of another Hyun Bin drama?  (cough cough - Secret Garden - Cough).  And many more, so lets just take a quick dive into episode 5.

Blade Man episode 5 & 6 - So Many Feelings

Hello all you kdrama (and specifically Blade Man) fans out there.  Kmuse here, a little bit late with my thoughts about episode 5 and 6.  I might have had a slight kdrama burnout (1st time in 4 years is not bad) due to some ambiguous OTP situations that are going on (Seriously, how many dramas are they planning on putting out where the lead is undecided. I am NOT a fan).  But luckily Blade Man is not one of those shows that shall remain nameless all of TvN's current programming and I actually managed to watch these episodes with some sense of enjoyment.  Who knew that a drama with a super hero identity crisis would perk me up so much?  But since I am so far behind on the recaps I am going to combine two to make sure I don't find myself finishing up recaps months after the show is actually over.  

In my personal opinion, what makes this drama work is Son Se Dong.  She is not only the noona who holds everyone together, but is also the moral compass of the drama. Every single character seems to revolve around Se Dong and she continues to make them grow by just being herself. Not only that, but she does it without huge speeches or pleas or extreme gestures.  It's the little things like letting a grieving mother feed her, allowing her boss to see how she treats everyone kindly, and holding a young boys hand when he is scared.  Small things, but to these damaged people it is life changing.  Anyone who eats that much food just to make a senile grandma happy should be nominated for sainthood.  I am pretty sure being able to ingest that much food is a miracle in of itself.

My favorite scene from this week was when Se Dong and Hong Bin go shopping in the market.  Hong Bin's wallet is stolen and Se Dong takes off after the thief.  Hours later Hong Bin is ready to hire extra security to search for her, when in bursts Se Dong, towing the thief  behind her.  Not only did she capture him, but the use of her new bra as a pair of handcuffs was hilarious.  When confronted by Hong Bin as to why she wasted all that for a few dollars, Se Dong informed him that she chased after the thief because the photo of Chang's mother was inside that wallet.  Something that is irreplaceable.  It is simple things like this that makes Se Dong irreplaceable in the drama.

We also get the official beginning the romance between our two leads.  I love how magical the director is making it feel and look.  The scene is full of cuteness, pounding hearts, and fireflies?  Fireflies suddenly filling the night sky which allows us to witness the OTP (One True Pairing) have their first hug.  I love how both looked completely shocked and unsettled.  It was the perfect romantic moment for this odd drama, because why should that be mainstream when every other scene is unique and quirky.

Who else was surprised at the new "big bad" that suddenly emerged.  I have to admit that I was flummoxed when Hong Bin's housekeeper turned into a mega villain almost equal to that of the abusive father.  Shedding her servant disguise she attends a threat filled visit to our least favorite father.  Threatening him, she demands that he give the mega mansion (the one that Hong Bin owns) over to her son.  The son she had with evil father......ewwww.  Those two procreated and produced a son, who I am suspecting, might end up being evil as well.  But first they join forces to do, heaven only knows what, to poor little innocent Chang.  Evil housekeeper kidnaps him and hands him over to evil father.  Wow this takes the drama to a whole new level of evil, but I guess a person who is not against beating up a pregnant women, won't stop at getting rid of an unwanted grandson.  Kudos to the writers for blindsiding me with all the crazy plotting going on.

Hong Bin finally learns the truth about what happens when he blacks out. Upon learning that his father had thugs beat Chang's mother, forcing her to flee to America, he goes a tiny bit postal.  And since Secretary Studly is not there to make him pass out, he is very aware when he starts sprouting swords.  Now at this point a saner person would start wondering if someone had slipped him something extra in his drink.  Had he accidentally eaten the wrong mushrooms at dinner?  Am I going insane and need to stop at the hospital?  But not Hong Bin, he easily accepts that he forces swords from his body when he is angry.  Hong Bin not only accepts it, but kind of goes on a power spree bounding across the city like Spider Man.  Because that is the first thing I think of, climbing up the side of a building with the swords on my forearms.  Hahaha.  I am not sure whether I should be wincing at the total cheese of this , or be hoping that we get some more super hero moments.  I think I will opt to take whatever the director/writers give us since so far they have not failed to keep me highly entertained.

My Secret Hotel Episode 5 - You Say Tomato and I Say Tomahto

Just when we were really getting into the murder mystery aspect of this drama, it decides to change gears and instead focus on romance and thankfully, our OTP (one true pairing).   But don't think that this simplifies the story since these two's history and present become just as complicated as any murder plot.  That, and there is a good chance I might kill someone if they do not start communicating soon.  Usually I am chanting at the OTP to just kiss already.  But here, I would be satisfied with just one conversation where they don't misunderstand each other. 

You know that magical moment in a drama when the main couple are completely in sync with each others thoughts and they have an open dialogue of their feelings, dreams, and frustrations? The way it makes you feel that all is right with the world, and true love can conquer all opposition?  Yeah...............this is not that type of a drama.  Rarely have I been so frustrated with two romantic leads.  It is not even that they don't let each other talk, they just misinterpret what each other says.  Add in a healthy dose of bad timing and you have a drama which is driving me nuts!!!!!

We start episode 5 with surprise, surprise, more miscommunication.  Sang Hyo surprises Hae Young at his offices.  The poor schmuck is so happy to see her, but that joy is soon turned to anger as Sang Hyo begs him to let their hotel redo his wedding.  Sang Hyo doesn't even explain why she needs to host it (remember she is going to be fired if she can't pull it off) just begs and begs, argues, then begs some more.  You can even see poor Hae Young wavering until she mentions her boss (supposedly her fiancee) and Hae Young kicks her out.  We at least get a bit of a cute moment while he is constantly looking around, just waiting for Sang Hyo to surprise him in some weird disguise and beg him again.  I also half expected her to appear, but Sang Hyo was too busy trying to convince Hae Young's witch of a fiancee to give the hotel a 2nd chance.

Yeo Eun Joo is stretching her Chaebol muscles as she forces Sang Hyo to carry her bags, put her shoes on her feet, and eventually kneel in the middle of the mall in an attempt to win her over to the 2nd wedding idea.  Sang Hyo sucks up her pride and does everything requested, only to be told that there is no chance that they would go back to Secret Hotel since the staff are so spineless.  Hae Young comes at the tail end of the kneeling apology and yells at his fiancee then grabs Sang Hyo's wrist, dragging her out.  Eun Joo is of course baffled as to why her fiancee just left with the wedding planner.  

We finally get to my favorite moment of the episode as Hae Young drives to a secluded location by the river (since that is the only place for couples to go for any bonding, crying, fighting, clandestine meetings, suicide attempts, or just to look at the pretty sunset).  He then allows her to have some time alone in the car to cry.  For once not communicating actually works for them, but how long can one person cry?  When Sang Hyo began crying it was daylight, by the time she finished the sun had already set.  Someone get that girl a water bottle ASAP.   Unfortunately for them, as well as the viewers, the couple begins to talk. Miscommunications run rampant, resulting in the OTP angrily separating......again.

Our 2nd lead, Sung Gyeom, was pretty quiet this episode but he sure finished it up with a assertive cliffhanger move.  While Sang Hyo was having her cryfest at the river, he was wining and dining Eun Joo and her father.  He gets them to agree to give Secret Hotel another chance (wow that smile sure can get things moving).  The deal is confirmed when Hae Young calls and announces that they will be doing their wedding at Secret Hotel and Eun Joo just has to deal with it.  

So everyone is now aboard the Secret Hotel wedding train......ummm yay?  Kinda sorta?  It just goes to show that no one at this point is really thinking of cancelling the wedding.  You know that Hae Young is having doubts, but those doubts have not lead to anything but moping and stalking.  When is someone going to make a definite move? 

As a thank you, (Sang Hyo thinks that the 2nd chance at the wedding was all thanks to Sung Gyeom) Sang Hyo offers to treat Sung Gyeom to dinner.  Later as he walks her home, Sung Gyeom asks her if she knew that love could happen within three minutes?  And then a follow up question "Do you want to date?"

Why does it have to end there?  And just in case you are not aware I was screaming out an emphatic "NO" at that point.  However, I have had a few days to reflect on the direction the story is going and have decided that although I don't want her dating Sung Gyeom, I am OK with the concept of a relationship being one of the plot points.  It is obvious that although she is still emotionally hurting over her failed marriage with Hae Young, she (at least at this point) has no thought of getting back together.  If you had any such hope, you would never agree to plan the love of your life's wedding.  

If anything, this is the problem I have the most with the drama so far.  Yes, they had this epic love that is still ongoing on both sides 7 years, one failed marriage, and one almost marriage, later.  Hae Young is practically worshiping at her feet with his longing looks, anguished misunderstood pleas,  and moody drinking.  But on Sang Hyo's part, most of her interaction with him is work related and a need to escape, rather than go towards him.  It can be very frustrating to see your female lead so against rekindling the romance.  It is very understandable that maybe an attractive man who wants to date you (who most importantly is not getting married) is a good 2nd choice.
 
Random thoughts: 
Hae Young obviously likes a certain style of architecture since his office and house are very very similar.  Or the production company could not afford two locations.  Hmmm  I suspect the latter.

Is Eun Joo dating her driver?  And if she is, why does he put up with her horrid and vapid behavior?  Now that is the true mystery of the show.

The Joseon Gunman Episode 5 & 6 -Dressed for Revenge

I am still playing catch up due to my falling behind during my family vacation.  And since I don't want to continue to be weeks behind in my recaps, I am doing a week where I combine the two episodes and just do a very light and breezy review.  Sorry that it is not as in depth as usual, I hope you will bear with me.  I decided that instead of doing a boring play by play, instead I will share my top 5 favorite moments/aspects of the episodes and be all ready and refreshed for this weeks recaps, written in my usual style. 

#5 John Wayne Style Shootout.

 My parents raised me on American westerns growing up so I am well versed in shootouts and showdowns.  So color me surprised to see a western style gunfight between Yoon Kang and one of the secret gunman.  It is reminiscent of my favorite John Wayne moment (see clip below) and I love that they are doing the whole riding straight at each other, shooting willy nilly.  This drama continues to deliver amazing action sequences over and over that are unique and visually stimulating.

#4 Playing Mind Games

I love that Yoon Kang is not cautious with Choi Won Shin (known to us as the #1 assassin gunman).  In his effort to find out who framed and killed his father, Yoon Kang jumps head first into the vipers nest searching for suspects.  Pulling the lose threads of the frame job, Yoon Kang hopes to find clues on who the main leader is.  While searching for his father's murderer behind the scenes, Yoon Kang maintains his facade of Hasegawa Hanjo (right hand man of a Japanese business company) in front of the world.  Little does he know that the enemy is the same for both of his personas.  I can't wait for information to start coming forth and seeing his revenge get kicked into double time.

#3 Stealing 2nd Lead's Heart

I have been pretty vocal over my enjoyment of the 2nd female lead, Choi Hye Won, who has really been holding her own as the merchant gunman's daughter.  She is tough, knows how to control men through strength and not by using just her looks, and is equal to any man.  But even the strongest female is not immune to the beauty of Yoon Kang.  Hye Won is being kidnapped by a rival company when Yoon Kang beats the crap out of them all single handed.  I can completely understand how her head could be turned with such a manly display of awesomeness. 

#2 Revenge Over Love

I am not a 100% convinced that Yoon Kang needed to keep Soo In in the dark about his return and revenge plans.  Would her reaction have been any worse for his plans, than her constant attempts to prove who he really is?  For whatever the reason, Yoon Kang decides to push his love away into a small corner of his heart and chooses to focus solely on revenge.  But Soo In is not to be ignored and is constantly following Yoon Kang which provides a lot of enjoyable scenes between our OTP.  And when it comes down to it, Lee Joon Gi's strengths are his angsty gazes and smirks.  Which we saw in full force throught these two episodes.

#1 So Many Wardrobe Changes

It is rare that we see more than one or two different outfits in a Sageuk, however we are given a feast of styles for Yoon Kang's character.  I am sure we could post hundreds of positive descriptive words for his various looks, but a picture is worth a thousand words, so enjoy this montage dedicated to Yoon Kang!

I am jumping with excitement for the next episode!  How is Yoon Kang going to escape from getting caught not only by Soo In, but also our big bad merchant?  Is he going to kick up his revenge plan a notch?  Are there going to be more outfit changes?   We should find out the answer to all these questions on Wednesday, and I hopefully will be back on my regular kdrama schedule so look forward to my recaps returning to my regular formant.

King of High School Episode 5 - Let's Just Fangirl

It is getting harder and harder to keep the fangirl enclosed as we fall more in love with Min Seok/Seo In Guk with every episode.  So since the fangirl Kmuse wants to come out and play, we are just going to focus on all things Min Seok and marvel at how sexy, and attractive, and kind, and athletic he is.........did I mention sexy already?? Since I could probably wax poetic about Seo In Guk for an extensive amount of time I also am going to limit my recap to my top 5 favorite moments of episode 5.  So sit back and prepare for a barrage of photos of our sexy leading man, because he was looking GOOD.

#5 More Running & Hanging Out at the Convenience Store.

Since I have already commented in past posts about the beauty of Min Seok's constant need to run, I figured I would combine that with his running to the Soo Young's new job at the convenience store.  But before we do get to the convenience store let us just yet again marvel at the beauty that is Seo In Guk in Motion.  Also when he ran out of the office after Soo Young and jumped the boxes, it was truly so sexy.  I think that we should start a petition requesting that his next role should be as a track athlete.   I could totally get behind him jumping hurdles for 16 hours.....yup, I think we need to start a petition. (sorry for no, jumping and running pictures, but he moves so fast it is hard to snag a photo that is not a total blur).

OK OK Back to Min Seok following Soo Young around like a sad lost puppy.  A lost puppy with anger issues as well as a healthy appetite.  HEHE  Upon finding the location of Soo Young's new job (a cashier at the local convenience store), Min Seok invaded her workplace, helping her lift heavy boxes, saving her from witchy costumers, and berating her about liking the two faced Jin Woo. "You have really bad taste in men, now make me my ramyun wench."  So maybe the wench part was implied, but it still cracked me up that Min Seok was treating Soo Young as his assistant even after she was fired.

#4 An Upset Min Seok is A Sexy Min Seok

Whenever Min Seok gets angry (especially about what he sees as an injustice), I swear his sexy meter goes up exponentially.  I can also appreciate his lack of inhibitions over who he will confront when his temper ignites.  The fact that he will barge into the presidents office during a rampage made me smile as well as realize that this is the dramas subtle way of continuing to bring the youth of Min Seok to the forefront.  If he had already gone through college and working his way up the ladder, he might not be so idealistic and ready to fight against his superiors.  Kudos on the writers (and Seo In Guk) for creating such a wonderfully layered character.  And if I had to choose my favorite angry Min Seok moment, it would have to be when he was screaming obscenities at the closed elevator.  I had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard.

#3 Boys Will Be Boys Take 2!

I don't know why, but I always want to just give Min Seok's two high school BFF's some kind of nickname. Thing1 and Thing2?  The Twitty Duo?  Two Wild and Crazy Guys?  Hmmmmm, for now I think I will stick with moniker The Twitty Duo, but regardless, they are not about to let Min Seok have all the fun of being "older" alone.  

They show up dressed to impress (in his brothers suits) ready to meet his sexy coworkers and mooch some free meals.  Poor Min Seok is about to explode from the stress of his two twit friends messing up his name and inviting his employees out for dinner.  If nothing else, the scene provides us with a comparison about how mature Min Seok really is. 

#2 A Sexy Rivalry

 Up until now (even with the one fight last episode) the rivalry between the two department heads has really been one sided on Jin Woo's part.  Even though he was occasionally angry, Min Seok always apologized for his temper and supposedly made sure that everything was good between the two of them.  Min Seok definitely takes things at face value.  That all changed when he learns that Jin Woo was behind Soo Young's termination.  

Our high school hottie truly loses his temper and the gloves come off.  He immediately confronts Jin Woo, yelling at him about his underhanded two faced dealings.  Jin Woo keeps his cool facade and seems to enjoy Min Seok 's departure into an angry youth.  Min Seok continues to lose his temper and nit pick Jin Woo's every movement until finally his anger culminates into a bathroom fist fight between the two men.  Hmmmm is their fight supposed to be sexy?  Because if so then they totally achieved their goal

#1 Scooter Excursion

I love that all Min Seok is thinking about for probably 85% of the episode is Soo Young.  Now I would not say that he is "in love" with her yet, but there is definite unrealized obsessing going on for our young hottie.  Unable to catch Soo Young before she leaves the office, Min Seok texts her, texts her some more, stares broodingly at his phone, and finally runs into her while he was working out (more running) his angst over her not replying to his texts.  He then tries to cheer her up at her new job (that did not really work out as planned) and finally offers to buy her beer and popcorn.   Poor depressed Soo Young even turns those down and dejectedly heads home.  But never underestimate a determined Min Seok, who tells her to wait for three minutes and returns with his friends scooter.  What follows is one of my new all time favorite OTP moments.  It is not overly romantic or intense, but the smiles that our leads have just make me grin along with them.  Not to mention my poor inner fangirl was so jealous over Soo Young's opportunity to hold a sexy Seo In Guk's waist and shoulders.  If I was her, I would be flubbing my lines to make this experience last as long as possible.  Because of the happy buzz I received as well as the great chemistry developed between the OTP, I declare this scene my #1 favorite of the episode.

I hope you enjoyed the countdown as much as I did in writing it.  With Soo Young coming back into the office as Min Seok's secretary, it looks like we are on the fast track for an emerging romantic triangle.  Somehow I have a feeling that Jin Woo is just putting the moves on Soo Young due to the effect it has on Min Seok.  Will have to check out tonight's episode to see where it all leads.

Witch's Romance Episode 5 - A Mini Recap

This episode was cute but a little light on serious plot movement (or at least it felt like it to my tired brain).  But this actually is a good thing since I am still on mini recap mode.  There is nothing like having other commitments interfering with your drama time to make you realize how much TV you actually watch.  Let's just say that I could probably watch TV for a full 24 hours and still be behind on the current airing dramas.  I think that a few sleepless nights are going to be in my future after my mother leaves.  Something that I am both looking forward to (It is a dramathon after all, always a good thing) and wincing since my poor brain is going to hurt by the end due to lack of sleep.   So before I go get some much needed sleep I will let you know just a few of my musings from episode 5.

Jumping to Conclusions

There was a lot of conflict this episode between our OTP (one true pairing), mostly due to Dong Ha jumping to conclusions over Ji Yeon's actions.  I won't go into all of them since it would make my blog post a lot longer then my "mini" goal.  Let's just say that I love when he tells her "don't provoke me" then is all intense and sexy.  Needless to say both are definitely starting to skirt around their feelings for each other.  Something which is very pleasant to watch.

What Happened at the Airport?

For shame writers for getting us all excited for an ex-boyfriend showdown and then just dropping the whole cliffhanger.  Due to her lack of angst, I am assuming that they did not see each other.  And that is fine, but why make it look like there was going to be a big confrontation and get our hopes up.  I just feel that they could have indicated that No Shi-Hoon was back with just a simple segment of him entering the airport.  They did not have to have her present.

Never Knew I Could be so Annoyed by a Cough.

Is it just me?  Or is that 2nd lead girl really really boring and/or annoying.  I don't know if it is the character or the actress, but every time she is on screen my nerves just go into overdrive.  The feeling was intensified as I was forced to watch Jung Eun Chae flit around coughing (so obviously ill beyond what anyone wants to be around) and making goo goo eyes at Dong Ha.  Eun Chae is the epitome of a damsel in distress so of course our white knight lead is always jumping in to help her. I can sympathize with Ji Yeon who is forced to watch this happen.  But she is all that is classy and instead of treating her poorly, she takes Eun Chae under her wing (at least in her own way).  Let's just say that if it were me I would not want her anywhere near my guy, nor  would I want her touching my food with her annoying sick little hands.

Yong Soo Chu is ADORABLE

The best part of this drama (other then the cute romance between our leads) is of course my all time favorite khottie Yoon Hyun Min.  Could he be anymore smarmy adorable.  His mix of awesome BFF (I love how he alternatively teases and gets jealous over Dong Ha's relationship with Ji Yeon) and eager smarmy puppy (towards Ji Yeon) makes me smile every time he is on screen.  And thankfully the writers realize this and have given him a lot more screen time then the Taiwanese original version gave the character.  Kudos to the writers on knowing a good thing when they see it.  Enjoy this Soo Chu collage and help me pray to the kdrama gods that he can have a leading role soon.
