{Monday Morning Therapy with Dongsaeng} The Olympic Edition

Today is the first day of school, so my Monday morning has been preoccupied with getting kids off and then spending time with the husband who has been home all morning.  I've also been drawing a blank on what to write about.  For all these reasons and more (like a 2 hour phone conversation with Unnie), this Monday Morning Therapy may well turn in to Monday Afternoon Therapy for today.

I think though, since it's been kind of a focus around here this week, I will do an Olympic-themed MMT.

Now, some of you may be groaning, or even shutting this page down at this point.  Maybe you've reached maximum Olympic saturation levels.  Or maybe you're still sore about your favorite drama(s) being preempted.  I get it.  Feel free to ignore this one.  I won't take it too personally.  I can handle the rejection.  {crying silently on the inside}

For those that choose to stick around though, let's chat Olympics.  Since this is a blog all about Korean stuff, I'm obviously going to focus on Team Korea.

Living here in the States though as I do, this puts me at a little bit of a disadvantage, as my Korean Olympic coverage is minimal.  Sure, when four Korean women get disqualified for cheating in Badminton, it's all over the place.  But who wants to talk about that?  They and 4 other people from two other countries made a stupid choice and were rightfully kicked out of the competition.  And how about the fencer Shin A Lam?  Did you here her story?  It's so very sad and frustrating.  Those are the more dramatic stories to come out of South Korea's Olympic adventures, but I'm sure there are many more that I just haven't heard.

I can tell you that their medal count is currently siting at 11 Gold 5 Silver and 6 Bronze.  Not too shabby considering their entire delegation is only 257 athletes.

I will also say that I've noticed a surprising switch in my own personal loyalties.  I find myself almost always cheering on the Koreans, even when they're up against an American.  I know!  How totally unpatriotic of me.  I try really hard to stay true to Team USA, but it's really hard when they're competing against Team Korea.  I was watching a men's swimming event and found myself cheering for Park Tae Hwan over the American competitor who took 3rd in this particular event.  Granted, it was obvious that Park Tae Hwan was going to beat the American anyway, no matter who I cheered on, but I just couldn't help it.  It's not often that you get to see that Korean flag displayed on the screen, so when I do, I tend to cheer for them.  It's an involuntary reaction.  I can't help it.  That's my defense and I'm sticking to it.  I'm still a Patriot, I promise, but during these games, Korea's got a friend in me.

Allright, this is going to be a first for me.  I'm going to end this post here.  o_O???  I know!  I'm surprised too.  I just don't really have a lot to say today.  Plus, there's a Jin finale just sitting there waiting to be watched.  I have to see how it ends.  I just have to.  I've invested so much time and whatnot into it at this point (even against my will at times) that I just have to see the conclusion.  It's driving me nuts.  I must end the madness.  So I will leave this MMT short today.  If you want more Olympic Team Korea coverage, check out their site.  It's got all kinds of interesting facts and information.

For your Monday Morning Prescription, sticking with my Olympic theme, I thought I'd share with you the Korean Olympic fight song created this year by none other than the man himself, Psy.  That's right.  The same Psy who has officially gone viral with his Gangnam Style video.  Seriously.  It's been featured on CNN and LA Times.
It's got over 17 million views on YouTube.  I even saw a couple of articles on Wall Street Journal's Asia blog. (This one too that talks about reaction videos) Psy is breaking down barriers like no other right now and I couldn't be more excited!  So, in honor of him and the Olympics, I think that it is only fitting that I include his Korean Olympic fight song today.  Enjoy, go cheer on Korea and your favorite teams, and have a Happy Drama Filled Monday!

{Post Publishing Edit}  In case you are looking for the dramatic conclusion of Dr Jin, it looks like the good folks over at MBC are liar liars pants on fires.  It didn't air on schedule as promised.  21 is out, but no word yet on episode 22.  Didn't want to lead you astray.  I just assumed since they said that it would air on schedule without interruption that they meant it would air on schedule without interruption.  Crazy me.  *psy*  *sigh*
