What Drama Should I Recap Next?

Searching for a new drama to recap is getting very stressful.  There have been quite a few dramas that have come out in the last few weeks that are really really good.  Unfortunately they either got to far in their airing for me to recap, or just don't connect with my blogging style, or in the case of Secret Love Affair, is to racy for me to comment on and not get in trouble with my mom.  So what is a poor blogger to do?

Luckily we still have some new dramas starting their run in the upcoming weeks, but I am still having troubles choosing between them.  So I decided to let you all help me decide.  I have three possibilities but I have to admit that one of them I have almost ruled out.   Anyway, if you have an opinion about which of these you would find more interesting please let me know.

-HOTEL KING-
My least likely drama to recap is Hotel King. Lee Dong Wook & Lee Da Hae reunite to do the melodrama hotel king.  It will be a 34 episode drama airing on the weekends following the finale of Golden Rainbow.

Synopsis:
Cha Jae-Wan and his mother were abandoned by his rich hotel owning father and left to grow up poor and bitter.  As an adult he begins to work at a hotel to get revenge on his father.  There he meets hotel heiress Ah Mo-Ne who is struggling to keep her families hotel at the top against Jae Wan's father.

Pro's
Lee Dong Wook & Lee Da Hae have proven chemistry with each other and I am looking forward to seeing them in something new.  From the drama's teasers we can tell that the director is going for a very slick and stylish concept.

Con's
It's a melodrama which goes past 20 episodes.  There is always the high possibility that it will languish slowly in the middle and give us an overabundance of angst.  This makes it hard to really keep motivated in the recapping.

 -A WITCH'S LOVE-
I love watching romantic comedies, especially one's that are well done.  A Witch's Love is taking over the Friday/Saturday Tvn time slot currently airing Emergency Couple.  The story is the Korean remake of a 2009 Taiwanese Drama "My Queen" which I really enjoyed (with the exception of the dragging story towards the end of the drama which is common in Tdramas).  And I think that if they clean up the script just a bit from the original than it really has a chance of being a great story.

Synopsis:
Ban Ji Yeon is a single 39 year-old woman. She works as a reporter and is very enthusiastic about her work. So much so that she is often called a “witch” at work. She doesn't believe in true love, because of her past experience when her boyfriend disappeared prior to their wedding. Yoon Dong Ha is 25 year-old young man who runs a small errand center with his friend. The errand center will do pretty much anything including sending out someone dressed as Santa Claus or provide security for an idol star. He looks like a happy guy, but he lost his girlfriend by an accident. No Shi Hoon is a 41 year-old war photographer. He was Ban Ji-Yeon’s boyfriend.
Pro's
The drama has cast new golden boy, Park Seo Joon (I Summon You Gold, Warm Words), as the leading man.  I love his ability to do both comedic and serious characters, and since this drama needs both , he is perfect for the character.  Also I truly found the Taiwanese version very enjoyable.  It had a lot of great laughs, and when it came out back before the noona/jail bait boom, it was a new and clever concept.

Con's
I have seen the Tdrama so I will be constantly comparing.  Also the other version did have a boring last third of the drama full of unnecessary problems.  It also ended with a tiniest bit of an open ending which can truly be annoying when one wants a drama to wrap everything into a nice and tidy bow.   However that drama was over 20 episodes where this one has been whittled down to 16, just what the drama might need to fix the plot problems.

-GAP DONG-
This is the drama I am leaning towards the most.  The story is interesting (at least in theory) and I am huge fan of the whole serial killer genre.  Add to that some truly spooky character teasers and I am seriously excited for this drama.  Also coming from the Tvn cable station (I have noticed that a bunch of my favorite dramas seem to be coming from Tvn lately) it will also be airing on Friday and Saturday.

Synopsis:
20 years ago Moo-Yeom’s (Yoon Sang Hyun) father was a suspect in the "Gap Dong” serial murder case. Because of the detectives’ oppressive investigation, Moo-Yeom’s father killed himself.
Now, Moo-Yeom is a detective and works to capture the killer Gap Dong. The statue of limitations has expired for the serial murder case and Moo-Yeom resigns to the belief that Gap Dong is dead. New clues though for Gap Dong appears in front of Moo-Yeom and he sets out to catch him once and for all.

Pro's
I am a huge fan of murder mysteries, especially real crime serial killer mysteries.  Lee Joon has an amazing teaser that has me totally hooked.  That boy can seriously do creepy killer well.  It is also something I have not done before in my recap's.  For the most part I have stuck to easy romantic comedies.

Con's
Sometimes cop kdramas make me want to pull out my hair in frustration.  90% of the time the writers create extremely cliched characters, and or make them out to be really stupid/crooked.  It drives me nuts.  If that was really the case, then Korea would be a crime haven, unable to operate past all the stupidity and inefficiency.  One can only hope that these writers have avoided falling into that trap of cliches.

So what do you all think?  Which drama are you planning on watching?  Should I just stop sleeping and do both of them?  If you have an opinion either way let me know in the comments.  (I did try to put in a poll but the techno-gods were not with me and I could not figure it out).  Either way I plan on watching all three dramas so you will have a lot of opportunities to see them in my weekly countdown if they are any good.

  1. I think Gap Dong will be good, at least I hope so. I will be watching that and A Witch's Romance. My Queen was a much better title than witch though.
