{Monday Morning(ish) Therapy with Dongsaeng} Big Bang Week!!!

I don't know if we've mentioned this yet or not, but Unnie and I?  Yeah, we're going to see Big Bang in concert THIS SATURDAY!!!!!!!  Can you tell how freaking excited we are?!?!?!?!

I don't know what I'm more excited about...  the concert itself, seeing my bestie that I haven't seen in 3 years, or meeting some really cool people that up until now have just been names and pictures in an online community.  I'm going to say all of the above pretty darn evenly across the board.

In honor of TCA's BIG BANG week, I'm dedicating this, my MMTwD to this, my most favorite KPop group, and one person in particular - my BB bias.

Wait?  What?  What's that I hear?  Did Dongsaeng finally choose a Big Bang bias???  I'm sure you are all just as surprised as I was.  ;)  Okay, maybe not.  I haven't been very forthcoming with my BB bias dilemma, but it's definitely been there all the same.  Just who do I choose?  It's a problem that has been plaguing mankind and fangirls/boys across the world since 2006.  (P.S.  When I just googled "Big Bang" to verify their debut year, the band was the first thing listed in the results.  Is that just because Google knows me well by now or because Big Bang is more searched for than the actual theory or tv show?)  And I have to admit, I pretty much cycled through all five before finally settling on "the one".  I had to try them all out and see which was the best fit.  The result?  Well, I am personally shocked by it.  If you had told me a few months ago that I would ever claim this one I would have told you that you were crazy.  If you're a long-time reader here, it may possibly surprise you as well.

Any guesses who the mystery man is?

Should I do the big reveal now?
I'm sure you're all on pins and needles, dying with curiosity.

Well, the grand prize winner (cuz let's face it, being my Big Bang bias is really like winning the grand prize after all) is none other than....

Drum roll please....

That's right, G to the D, Mr Gold and Diamonds boy himself - G Dragon.

I know!  I was just as surprised as you too GD.

I know that in the past I've been known to pick on you a little.  It was nothing personal, it just took me a while to "get it".  I'll admit, at first your style threw me off.  My very first Big Bang song/video exposure was Blue.  GD was pretty innocuous in that one and didn't stand out.  But then came Bad Boy.  And there was GD acting all gangster and I kind of thought it was a little laughable.  Sorry.  Just keepin' it real.  I mean, look at him.  He's about as gangster as I am.

Or so I thought.

Next came Fantastic Baby and the infamous 'seaweed hair'.

These incredibly bold looks/attitudes threw me off at first, I'll admit.  Remember, I was still VERY VERY new to KPop when Big Bang released their Alive album.  Like as in brand spankin' new.  As I have come to follow Big Bang and this man's career I have seen beyond the constantly changing images and can now see better the genius that is G-Dragon.  No really.  The boy is an amazing talent.  There is a reason why he is the leader of Big Bang even though he's not the oldest.  He is an all-around total package in talent and abilities.

In other words, I "get it" now.

Recently something big happened in my life.  I bought an entire album on iTunes for the first time.  True story.  And guess which album it was?

Yup....

Sure, it's only a mini-album with 6 tracks, but still.... Baby steps.  This was a big deal for me and the moment when I realized that without even meaning to, I had found my forever Big Bang bias.  Why is it forever?  Because it's based on an appreciation for his skills as an artist, not mere looks alone.  TOP initially won me over - the boy is fi-ine!  And he has talent, definite talent.  And his deep, sexy voice?  Amazing!  Daesung has the most gorgeous singing voice - I could listen to him croon all day long.  And he and Taeyang both have rockin' bods.  Taeyang is an incredibly fierce dancer.  Seungri is also a great dancer and he's not bad to look at either, now is he?  *eyebrow wiggle*  G Dragon is... he's... difficult to describe.  He's so pretty, no denying that.  But, at least for me, he was an acquired taste.  The talent that that boy is wielding though is something else.  Put it all together and we have a winner.

I first started to appreciate his skills after watching this clip of him in the studio with Park Bom of 2NE1 working on a collaboration.  It's when it really hit me that this guy isn't just a face put with this music - a trained monkey performing for his masters.  No, he himself is the master and heavily involved in the creation of his music.  And he's a perfectionist.  And I really started to respect him so much more once I saw this.

He sings.  He raps.  He composes, writes and produces.  He's a true professional in the music industry.  He's been training since he was 8 years old.  How many 8 year-olds land a spot in a singing group (a short-lived group called Little Roora, not Big Bang)?  I just really have come to respect him for his raw talent, dedication and hard work.  Sure, he's pretty shmexy too, but beyond that, he's a force to be reckoned with in the music industry and I really respect that and love that about him.  He pushes the envelope in style and fashion, but has the chops to back his claim to fame.

So, there you have it.  My official Big Bang bias chosen just in time to go see him and his fellow Big Bang members in concert.  Yay!  Will I look like a total ahjumma if I bring binoculars to properly gawk at the concert?  Do I care?  I will gladly look the ahjumma in order to get a close up view of these 5 boys strutting their stuff.  Totally worth it.  ^-^

V.I.P.s of the world - who's your bias and why?  Share with us in the comments section below.

Obviously your prescription for today is going to be some Big Bang.  But which to choose?  Oh, sheesh - too hard!  I love them all.  In honor of my newly claimed bias though, I guess I'll stick with some GD.  Now, most of them that I would choose are ones that I've already shared because, well, because they're my favorites which is why I already shared them.  Duh ;)  I'll try to round up maybe some lesser known and viewed songs/performances in hopes that at least something will be new or fresh for ya.

Here's an awesome one.  Want the best seats in the house at a Big Bang concert?  How about up on the stage?!  This was shot by Seungri and GD while performing Fantastic Baby in the Philippines.  Talk about up close and personal!  I loved especially when GD turned the camera on himself.  The sound quality is not so hot what with the intense volumes and all, but still, a must-see video for any VIP.  (and by the way - there are more of these out there - I just chose this one randomly out of several others)

Here's a live performance of "Missing You".

This one is just because I like to hear him talk ;)

I've shared another Inkigayo of this same song before, so sorry for the repeat, but at least this was from a different week so it's a little diffeent. Hey, it's GD and Crayon - is there anything as too much?

And here's Crayon at Inkigayo last week outside on the streets of Hongdae for a little change of pace.

I'll leave you with those for now and wish you a very wonderful Monday and a great week!  Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I was thinking about someday writing a post about why I love G-Dragon most.. but I realize now that I'd be copy-writing everything you just said here about him. XD I think I'll just memorize some of your lines. ;)

It's so hard everytime a non-Kpop fan asks me why I listen to Kpop, and then I inevitably show them a picture of GD<3, and then I have to explain why I'm in luurve a skinny Korean guy with a red ponytail down the side of his face, and way too many (albeit gorgeous) earrings, who sings with a nasally voice that somehow sends me into shudders, and why I turn into puddles at the sight of his sweet, cute, and prrrretttty baby-ish face. :)

Ehhhm, it's about his talent really.. and leadership abilities, and work ethics.. yes. That's why I love him.. And oh yes, I also rewatch of the One of a Kind preview clips just to hear him speak. And that was also my first FULL Kpop album to buy on iTunes. I'm so proud of myself.
